not really a fair comparison as the first one is circa 1970 and the hymer looks like last years model.

very true......but still a good comparison.
a seperate box fixed to the rear chassis or an integral box built on the whole chassis

I'd sooner be in the one that was'nt being driven by stevie wonder and ray charles... that wall they crashed into was big enough for even for me to spot !!!

You could do the same comparison acroos the whole raft of vehicles on the road today, and come up with some equally loaded results.
I have an old videotape of a crash investigator going over a car, and he makes MANY MANY good reasons why that car should never have been on the road.........it was a BL mini!!, he also, investigates the crash in which princess diana died, in arguably the worlds safest motor.

allegedly, one of the worst vehicles is a large 4 x 4...especially the ones with a separate ladder chassis.

built for strength and rigidity they dont 'give' in the same places or to the same degree as a modern car does.
