We would like to get to know some of our local Funsters in and around Kent, were all up for a bit of a grin, we even have the facility to meet up on our 5 pitch site on the Isle of Sheppey, anyone interested, please let us know!::bigsmile:

My understand was that it was against forum rules for site owners to promote meets for their own site.. Perhaps Jim can clarify

Jim, I noticed it a couple of times and did hit the button the other day (same person advertising his alarm service).. but seems he is still doing it. Traders / camp site people do not read the terms and conditions. We all know a little bit of the advertsing creeps in from certain dealers (unnamed.. but also in Kent as it happens).. but it is a balance I suppose between telling members some thing they want or might want to know and what is just self promotion. I agree this was clearly self promotion.

Perhaps Mr Brown will read our comments.

This topic was already discussed and Jim made it clear.. in this thread Broken Link Removed

I am not discriminating against Wildman. It seems Roger wants to run the rallies as a money making concern, and I am just not happy about that. It is not why I worked at getting our exemption, the aim is to rally freely. If someone else is running a rally and using Rogers or any other persons land, and there is a charge to be paid, then chipping in to pay a reasonable fee to 'landowner' seems fine. But to have roger heavily/freely promoting "official" rallies at £25 a pop just does not sit well with me, it makes it a private enterprise and any campsite could ask to freely promote paying rallies on their campsite and where does it end.

so, if it is a FREE meet that is ok ..

Hi Jim. I gave your post a thread of it's own.

Yes you are right, blatant self promotion is against the rules. Having details of a CL in your signature is OK, we know that they are not really a 'business' An example is Dylan who has a lovely CL in Llandovery, she does not blatantly promote her site, yet we all know about it. You will never hear her say, " Welcome to Fun - Come visit my CL" She posts good info regularly and is welcoming and helpful, this is better than ramming in down peoples throats. (Like I do with Red Kite)

The poster in question has a ratio of about 10 to 1. That's 10 posts engineered to promote his business with one selfless post. This is likely to result in a ban.

The rally thing is clear, I do not want anyone promoting rallies for profit, so funsters that have land and want to use this land as a 'business' are not allowed to promote it here. We end up with welcoming posts that say something like "welcome to the fun, come and spend £25 with me at my rally" hardly the welcome I want new funsters to be confronted with.

If a funster is a landowner they should pay to advertise in ACCEO (an association of rallying clubs) that way they will get a lot of clubs rally with them. This is not the place to advertise their profit making ventures, unless of course they want to pay me for an advert like any other trader.

Steve, this is a self moderated place, we rely on members reporting posts that break the rules, clearly there is room for interpretation, but in this instance I feel they were right to report it. Its nothing personal and nothing to do with anyones toes.

If your next 20 posts don't mention your CL or your business then I'm sure we'll be convinced of your integrity. ::bigsmile:

I seem to have hit a nerve! You call it self promotion, far from it, I have been in and around Motorhomes for years, travelled all over the place, love them to bits! Get the chance to run our own site, want to share the place, with as many folk as possible, want to offer good advice when it comes to Motorhomes Electrics, been doing that for thirty years plus, and a small band of people want to park me up as self promoting. £10 per night won't even keep me in fags and booze, if your so worried that my little input is advertising, so be it. I will resign from here and put a CC badge on, thank you one and all Good Bye and Good Luck!

I always hesitate to post anything in this sort of thread where everyone is throwing their dollies out of the pram.:Eeek:
This sort of thread is the kind of thing we came to this forum to avoid. Misunderstandings frequently occur when communication is by writing only.
Having met him, I believe Steveutwg is completely above board and any apparent advertising was unintentional and only with a view to meeting more of us. At £10 a night he will have to live to be 100+ to see any return on his investment anyway.

Steve, please don't do anything precipitate over a misunderstanding of the site rules, in particular not the CC as most of us are not members

I like nearly retired have looked at this thread, and yes fun has rules and Jim is always fair, but it does seem when Steve posts for some reason some of the members jump up and down.

Sounds a good place to stop off at, he does not ram it down our throats, can't see why the hob nail boots have to come out.
Roger likes to mention the Lazy Buzzard when he can and of course there is the Red Kite:Smile: info like this can't be harmful and he could have become an official Fun Site, that would have been good.

Hope he does not take his leave.

I for one, find no problems with Steve's posts, and have not found him intrusive or over the top in any way. His knowledge could also be a useful asset...

Indeed if I was closer I would have taken up his kind offer for a meet in his thread about Kent. It looks like he has a nice spot there, and his replies to other Funsters were more than friendly. I felt no "advertising" going on in my face.....

This is FUN, so let's live and let live, a new year approaches and who knows how many of us will see the next, so let's make the most of today....

Here's to Happy Days....:thumb:

This is FUN, a piece of hardware and software bought, designed and paid for by Jim. He's not millionaire philanthropist, if this site does not earn him a few bob for his efforts then why will he keep it running ?

So in effect this guy has walked into Tesco's with a barrow full of cabbages and starts selling them.

Yes, he's a nice guy. Yes, cabbages are good and cheap. But do Tesco's let this happen ?

What do you think ?

What do I think ? I think we all need Jim and need to let him run the site we all benefit from. This is Jim's veto and he just played it.

I found the original post regarding a few 'local' funsters coming round for a giggle not to be advertising in anyway at all, no mention of a rally or meet of any sorts, bit of a storm in a T cup as far as I'm concerned, perhaps Steve should have asked another Funster to promote a New years eve meet or rally at his place but he's only got 5 pitches anyway so not going to make him a rich man overnight.
