I've got to admit to being envious of you being on these classic aircraft. I had models of the Vanguard and Viscount as I lived under the flightpath minutes from Glasgow airport and watched them in awe as they flew over our house. The only prop plane I was ever on was HS 748 to Jersey
And of course back in those days you could go up into the cockpit as a youngster & chat to the Captain who explained some of the controls.

Highly recommend Lancaster on Prime Video.

A very honest and informative film about the role of the aircraft during WWII.

From its creation through to the infamous dambuster missions and the controversial bombing of Dresden.

Some fantastic aerial shots of the RAF's last airworthy craft.

Can rent it for a fiver or so.

just sitting in bed looking out of my window. I have been watching a plane going back and forth on same flight path for a while now. I am under the east midlands flight path in Hulland, Derbyshire. It just keeps flying right then left ??? Still flying now on same path. Still flying on same path, glad I am not on that plane. Edited to say I could only see the lights of the plane as it is pitch black dark here at nights.

Don't think the Yanks use it now.... Prestwick Airport is a shadow of its former self..
IMV the only reason it still there is the fact that when most other airports in the UK are forced to closed because of the weather, fog/snow/mist etc Prestwick remains unaffected to the weather.
It does, on accassion get flights from as far away as London landing.
I was at the camp site at the end of Prestwick runway an few weeks ago and it was far from quiet, regular Canadian C17 cargo, RAF C17 and Hercules, French Navy sub hunter, the RAF’s new sub hunter Poseidon, United Arab Eremites Air Force exec jet and a couple of USAF Hercules all visited on one day, not to mention the odd scheduled civvy flights, any aircraft spotter would be chuffed to see that lot 👏👏

I'd always assumed it's a defensive tactic to try and confuse radar cross section and provide mutual support/overwatch.

But I could be completely mistaken...

Also I suppose those Hercules would be used to drop off equipment from low altitude. In out, quick as you can and away again. Jobs a good 'un.

Being a non-military pilot, may I ask is there a tactical reason they need to fly in that formation?.......

............or do they just like to have their photos taken? :giggle:
Only one of them has a compass.

Close low level flying is used to protect against Ground to air attack, if they were strung out then the ground forces may miss the first 1 or 2 but would be ready for the last 2, by flying so close together they would have gone past the shooters before they knew what the noise was 👍🏻👍🏻

Moved over to the Dark Side after 16 yrs tugging.
Fuel costs? There's no shortage of Exec jets flying off to places like Paris, Berlin, form Blackpool airport
