We have had two weekends away now and all fine, tv 240v good, but am i right in thinking that (and I think I am stating the obvious) that if we go someone where there is no EHU we would need a 12v tv the 240 wont work. Anyone recommend a good one if thats the case and a rough cost, is the the sort of tv currys would stock.

Cheers all.

Yes you will need a 12v TV

If you look around you can get 12V with DVD built in for under £100...

There are lots of threads on here about 12v TV's just use the search facility.

Absolutely correct... no EHU no 240v unless you use an inverter or a generator.
I'm not sure about 12v tv from mainstream electrical dealers. There are certainly specialist suppliers ....we have Avtex sets which we find perfect.

if your current TV has a black box, maybe 4" x 2", in the 230v power lead it is a 12v TV...the box is a 230v/12v stepdown transformer.

if this is the case all you need a 12 power lead with the correct plug to fit the TV.

ideally you shoulduse one of these stabilised power supplies......

Amperor

if the TV is just 230v then yes, you need either a 12v tv or a power invertor to convert 12v to 230v.

currys, comet, argos, tesco, morrisons, asda etc all do 12v TV's but make sure it has the black box in the power lead or its just 230v.

'Cos the local independants have priced themselves out of the market.....they dont have the buying power of the big chains.

you can run TV and other 240v equipment of 12volt inverter
you only need about 350W to run the tv
I have 2 x 500w + 1x 1500w inverters and can run allsorts :thumb:
240/12v TV are very expensive and not needed

We run a 26" mains TV in our RV all the time

We run a 240 volt mains TV - 26" without EHU... how? we have a 1500 watt Sterling pure sin wave inverter fitted (By VanBitz --- even cheaper now with Eddies discount he is offering members:thumb:).....

We recharge the batteries from our generator... but we still manage to watch TV off EHU for a good amount of time each day then boost the batteries ..

WE bought a 15" mains TV from Tesco direct for £80 so run it from a small inverter, the TV only takes 20W so the 150w inverter is OK.

Remember that an inverter will use some battery power in addition to what it uses to run an electrical item, so if you use an inverter always disconnect it from the battery system when not in use
