Hi Frankie, I used to love being in France when the signs went up "Le Beaujolais est arrive" It was the only time I took it as my aperitif, forgoing my Pastis or a Kir. This years Nouveau seems to be very promising.

What's the best year to buy ?

There is no best year to buy Brian as its a young wine and not produced to lay down. Each year is different and that adds to the delight and surprise. Its a very exciting time in France now.

Well Brian , you see the point in Beaujolais nouveau is that you are not meant to keep it !
It is a young wine you are supposed to drink when on the market !
If you keep it then it is not anymore a "beaujolais nouveau " it is a beaujolais .... that's all! You have to drink it straight away and you can drink it let's say up to Chrismas , may be 1 or 2 months more and then ... finished ! Got it?:winky:

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
When I worked in Brum, one Friday morning my Manager (the one called Waters LOL) was a bit late into the office, and looked quite pink in the face.

Turned out she'd been innocently walking past the vintners on the corner and claimed the chap in there had rushed onto the pavement and forced her into the shop for the opening of the Nouveau. She did say it was surprisingly palatable considering it was 08.30 !

A likely story!

Some years ago, I was on a male bonding trip to Dunkirk. Through one reason or another, our ferry left without us onboard.
Totally unaware of anything Beaujolais Nouveau we were told no ferry until next day. The only ferry had been fully booked by the Beaujolais Run, hundreds of classic vehicles were waiting its departure before midnight.
Somehow we became part of the Beaujolais frenzy and furor and we were welcome aboard. Out the car and we were ushered into a very large area full of reporters with tables full of every wine and food from every area of France. There was a short ceremony at Midnight and we all drank to the health of this year’s crop then we continued to eat and get legless on the best free wines on offer. :france:

We're off to the Fete du Hareng (Festival of the Herring) in Boulogne this weekend - Sea France permitting!

Happily, it coincides with Beaujolais Noveau, so we'll be washing the fish down with some good stuff by the sound of it.
