I'm a newbie
I'm planning on my first trip abroad to northern Spain next year, is there any issues regarding continental frequencies which I should be aware of when using EHU?

Thanks in advance.

Spain is on 50 Hz the same as the UK so no issues (just the weather is better and the beer colder!:thumb:)

it must be nice to be going for the first time

It must be nice going to Europe for the first time... the anticipation of it all.

My issue is (I tend to travel through the night) how to dodge the toll roads, where will I get fuel on a main road where the petrol stations only accept cards (mainly european bank types).. but then these days we use a pre loaded Caxton FX Euro card that gets over the issue. The worry about lpg - being an RV (American motorhome with onboard tanks).... will the French or Spanish plod be pulling me over to earn some money (No fines no jobs).

But then it is can I get my RV and trailer (45' long) in to a gap so SWMBO can nip in and get some bread on the move as day light comes up. Is the saterlite up todate, is the mountain pass open and clear from snow. Do I need snow chains or will I be OK...dependant on time of year. As I have a very good RV power system (from VanBitz.. free advert Eddie !) I do not tend to worry if it is 50 or 60 hz .. we have reverse polarity (auto unit) ... a good alarm (Strikeback) plus a good power delivery system 1500 watt Sterling charger / invertor.. so I do not worry about those issues.. or the spirious gas attacks on campers.. never meet anyone yet who it has happened to.. lots of I know a person that knew a person.

Oh to be going in to Europe for the first time... These days 20 years on an old hand.. the biggest excitement is getting the dog (Ezzie) to the vets in France at the correct time and then to the Euro Tunnel to the PETS control.. the rest is just like a weekend in the UK. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT..Go and enjoy it... you are going to Spain, not the far side of the moon.

Yes I assumed this was a beginner section where beginners can receive helpful advice from the more experienced without being made to feel intellectually impoverished.

First let me say sorry. But I really was puzzled. It's way above any normal beginners question, last thing on the minds of most people is the mains frequency.

Then there is another puzzle, I'd love to know what a radiochemist is, I've never heard that term before.

Oh, Caithness, the wonderful Aurora pictures, I was a bit blunt asking you where they were taken.

Obviously we've got off to a bad start, I can only say sorry and that I mean no harm, just never like to take things too seriously, sometimes is backfires.

As to Spain, your biggest problem is how far away it is, that's one hell of a drive. We've only been once by MH, absolutely no problems, great roads and the few sites we used were all good and thank goodness English was spoken at all of them. It's a truly exciting country to drive down, terrain like no other we visited, vast endless plains, lines of mountains and desolation like the moon.

Caithness - radiochemist - ah Dounreay ?

OK, no hard feelings, apology accepted in full and looking forward to a better start, I must grow a thicker skin. A radiochemist is someone who specialises in gamma spectroscopy to identify radioactive substances.:thumb:

OK, no hard feelings

That's good. Once you get the feel of this place and think about it as a bar with all your mates in it starts to make sense. It's all good natured but occasionally a joke falls flat. On the whole it's just amazing what FUN has achieved. People are just the same face to face at the meets we have. People go to extraordinary lengths to help their fellow travellers.

I can't explain it. Common purpose isn't enough, a similar forum is known for it's nastiness. There are no moderators here. Somehow the place has gelled into what can only be described as a large family.

So if you do have any problems in Spain, you know where to come for help.

Frequency on board most ships is 60 Hz and I've run all sorts of electronics TV, iron's, kettles ad infinitum over 40+ years with absolutely no problems. Electric clocks tend to gain and domestic tumble driers do not work.

(Electric motors run slightly faster at 60Hz, a tumble drier works with the help of gravity, drum diameter etc allowing clothes to fall off the drum before they reach the top tumbling through the blown warm air. At 60Hz the drum spins faster and the clothes usually stick to it as centrifugal force is stronger hence do not tumble.)

Thought I'd explain before someone asked!:ROFLMAO:

I once sailed with a Chief Engineer who fitted a nice new digital clock on the bridge.
Looked great, red LED, could be dimmed at night....... perfect...

It was right at least twice a day, and the watches somehow passed a lot faster.......
