I was wondering how many Funsters actually use the over cab as a sleeping area or is it as always a nice idea, but one never used?

We have only ver had one person sleep in the old Autosleeper and he thought it was claustrophobic.

i use ours all the time get a great nights sleep unless its raining heavy as its close to the roof.
another advantage is swmbo is scared of heights so wont go up there so she's not disturbing my sleep either.

Our Burstner one is huge and comfortable. Apart from there being no other option anyway it's a great bed. Only downside is you can't sit up to read in bed. And being at the top all the heat goes up there so a bit hot in summer, a roof fan helps here.

As a height guide we can kneel normally when wandering round it. I have seen others that look like you could barely slide into them.

The other downside is drag leading to extra fuel burn.

Like many others, we chuck everything up there even the table whilst travelling, but when the grandchildren come out then that space is for them.

Having said that I slept up there for the first time at the Banbury fishing meet as Jackie had just come out of Hospital the day before and I might just have knocked her in the night where she is still a little bit fragile. (No, not an ingrowing tow nail)

Point is I slept just fine, getting up, piece of [STRIKE]pi[/STRIKE] cake, getting down less so. I prefer the appearance of the low profile but luggage, laptop, table and other light objects wouldn't fit into the lockers if it was a low profile.

I also think the six berth opens up the market place to the family man when re-selling.

They're all a compromise, I'll always go for over-cab bed.

great nights sleep, however when you drink too much its a pain in the arse to nip to the loo in the middle of the night, much easier to go out the window.:roflmto:

We use ours all the time for sleeping... loads of room and pretty comfy

Only downside as mentioned before, it feels like a long way to the loo during the night....

Brian, you do come out with some cracking quotes, and always make me smile!:thumb:

I cannot say I often wander around my Luton - nowhere near big enough - I prefer a park, or the local village:winky:

As there is only 3 of us and we have a 5 berth we tend not to use it to often, when we take one of sophie's friends with us they both sleep up there. Ours has a good size bed but little hieght, I have also used it my self and found it to be really comfy but trying to undo the net at 2 am when your desperate for a pee isnt a good idea.

Snap, I sleep in "the cave" while Gel sleeps right down the other end, with her grinding teeth, and snoring, and I love the window open wide open,

Our Luton in the Hymer was massive and I loved sleeping up there. Now we just make up a bed in the U-shape. This one doesn't look as big. ::bigsmile:

Off-topic, Ray did you get my pm today? Not sure it went. ::bigsmile:

Yup, we sleep in/on it. Making up the L-shaped on a nightly basis would drive me bananas. And it isn't half or even a quarter, as comfy as the proper mattress in the luton. However I have to get up several times a night, I should give up drinking anything after teatime LOL - and Pete now gets up at least once. He sleeps on the inside which would be too claustrophobic for me.

Plus so we can leave the ladder in situ we have to leave the bathroom door open all night (can't open it with ladder in place) and the whole thing is getting to be a PITA so we are 'wondering' about a fixed bed now.

Which was very odd really, because we always made up the caravan bed every single night; it never was a problem at all - and it was the only feature we were both adamant about prior to purchase, we didn't want a fixed bed cos they are a waste of space ....... :roflmto:

Not a hope!! I have 6 berths for just me so sleep in the fixed bed though have used the sofa's half made into a bed before. The over cab is where my 'stuff' lives on a permanent basis - tv and a load of gawd knows what that will come in handy one day :roflmto:

As ours is 6 berth and there's only the two of us, we just chuck all the bedding up there, pull the curtain across and forget about it.
But there is plenty space as it's 6 ft 8 ins x 4 ft 6 ins, with loads of room to sit up and read. There is a ledge for a tv in ours, that is assuming you want to watch tv in bed:winky:

I don't really fancy having to shimmy down the ladder in the middle of the night though, so we keep the bed in the rear lounge made up all the time and sit at the centre table for meals etc.

I thought the over-cab would be great for hubby and I could sleep in the rear bed, as his snoring usually keeps me awake, however, the noise of the snoring travels in the van. At least if we sleep together at the rear, I can give him a sharp kick or elbow in the ribs to stop the snoring:thumb: I wouldn't be able to do this if we were at either end of the van.
Thankfully, so far no Viagra needed:roflmto:

Same with our Bessie. Ok for a kid, the small grandrunts like it, but not for adults due to lack of headroom.
I used to sleep up top in the Mobilvetta, Pauline on the dinette bed.
We now use the single bed function. Better than farting about making a bed up.
Overcab is generally storage space.
