Hello everybody !!!!

Today and tomorrow i have the pleasure to host in my stadium the French Police ...180 of them to be precise!

Now this is a great opportunity to ask all sorts of questions . They come from all areas in France (handball turnament) and they should be very informative . I will ask them if they allow me to film them .

First thing i will ask is to give me "THEIR" rule about snow chains .... just to see what is coming out of the conversation .

What else would you like me to ask ? i should be able to ask a max of questions during the lunch :winky: I hope they will answer........

Morning Frankie - I suspect one of the main things people would like to get an answer to is what instructions have the French police been give regarding A frames on motorhomes ? Seems to be a bit of a hot potatoe these days. Are they legal in France or not:thumb:

Ask them, back in 1987, they arrested me following a disturbance in Paris city centre. During the arrest, I lost one of my shoes which they couldn't find, and ledt me to go back home with one shoe. Could you ask them if it ever turned up please?
Merci.

Also, Gassing? lets dig that old chestnut up.

Oh and a list of names and addresses of each and everyone would be good, that way we can increase our number of people to visit, but only get there addresses if they have somewhere capable of parking a camping car and possibility for electric hook up. :thumb:

Do Brits living in France have to change their drivers licences? It's a question always being debated on Brit forums in France.

OK I asked the first one (i have to be careful with these gentlemen or they will run away without giving me any answer at all ::bigsmile:)

-Snow Chains : In summer : It is not compulsory to have them in your boot where ever you are in France . If very unusual and specific conditions it will be mentioned on the Internet "préfecture" site of the departement . IF and only IF there is a special "arrêté municipal" saying you ought to have your vehicle equipped when "snow equipment required"sign is enlightened, then of course you will have to PUT chains on as soon as you have passed the sign ! If you haven't then you can be fined . Before the sign you will just have to carry them in your boot but can't be fined if you actually don't have them . You will be told to turn round. If you tried (cheeky ones) to go pass the sign without chains on then you will be fined for : being dangerous and disobey the law .... they never told me how much:RollEyes:... It will be same rule for French and Foreigners.

In Winter: When you are not in a mountain area , so anywhere else in France but mountains, chains are not compulsory to carry in your boot .

In Mountains areas , it is most of the time, compulsory to carry them in the boot. You have to equip your tyres as soon as you pass the enlightened sign saying so. If you are not sure , in winter you have to check on Internet on the departement prefecture site before your travel . They will say it . If it happens while you are already on the french territory , then you will have to buy them where you are. No exception.

In any case you are NOT to be fined if you just don't have chains with you in your boot , outside the areas saying you have to have equipped tyres.

What ever the place , what ever the season . The only thing they can do is to tell you to stop or to turn round (if possible).

You will be fined if : because you didn't have chains in your boot , you then couldn't put them on your tyres when required, and went deliberately through restricted "snow chains" zones , therefore are dangerous for the others and yourselves.

If you have stopped the traffic because you have slipped because you had no chains on, in required "snow chains" zones.

IF you are ask money , supposed to be a fine, in other situation than those, then 1) it is not a true policeman , or 2) this policeman is abusing you . you can complain .... or phone me ::bigsmile: i will try to sort it out for you ! (which means , you can forget your chains at home but not my mobile number::bigsmile::winky:)

Right i am going back to ask about A frame ... hoping they will be available to answer as they are now ....eating!!!!! ....

I would be interested to know if there still is such a thing as a "crime of passion" in France...

If a woman kills her partner with a frying pan in a fit of jealous rage, does she get away with it? :winky: :winky:

Second question : How do they deal with A frame :

Answer : No need to deal! A frame is allowed everywhere on french territory . A motorhome can tow a little car with an A frame .

Third question : Gassing

I am afraid i have to tell you something you won't like : It does happen !

They are mainly southern policemen and so are used to see people gassed in south-east. They told me that most motorhomers being gassed are around Antibes, Nice, Monaco, Marseilles.

The gangs come from eastern Europe: They are from "Ukraine", "Pologne" etc.... They already got gangs in action. They told me that this was still in a rather low % and never saw this happen elsewhere than in eastern parts of France.

Fourth question:

Driving licences don't need to be changed into French ones .....

Now Pauline , this is the answer of the specialist i spoke to :" tell her to talk in english to any policeman trying to ask questions. Then give her this advice , it is much much better for her to keep her english licence ! less problems all in all, and no policeman will bother to annoy her with it as it takes longer to fill up the form then to tell her , ah well ok go away !"

Here you are!

Hope it helps you all!!!!

Frankie::bigsmile:::bigsmile::winky:

PS : All these nice policemen agreed to say that the red card was far too much . They all said yellow card would have been ok ! Not a spear tackle, just a nice fly as it does happen in rugby...; they are supposed to be tough enough and well trained to avoid the worst. End of it !

Now, wouldn't it be good if we in the UK could find 180 policemen, have a party and ask the same question?

Or maybe we could become a French protectorate then we could all stop trying to sort out this very vexing question and copy the way they deal with the A-Frame.
