I think its designed to put on the dash or similar to keep the engine battery charged when the vehicle is not used.
Suppose it would do a similar job to the habitation battery if you were not taking power from it. If you intend using it to recharge your habitation battery whilst using the van then the simple answer is NO.

If your thinking of putting a solar system on your camper Dave and you want to keep the engine battery topped up from it then your better off with one of these from evilbay. Item no 230597671481 and its only £17.99.
It diverts any excess power from your solar system into the engine battery.
The leisure battery gets the first priority and any power after that is diverted to the engine battery.

That looks very much like the Battery Charge Manager which I bought from CAK Tanks (but cheaper). Mine certainly does the job.
