You can't go far wrong by going to the WWI area & beaches in Normandy. We've been a couple of times and so much to do & see. If the weather is good the beaches are brilliant and some of the best in France if the weather is not too good there is so many other things to see & do.
Lots of campsites ranging from top priced to municipal (the one in Bayeux is good & very central) to lots of wild (free) sites such as cliff top car parks & aires.
Recommend Pegasus Bridge (you can park in the car park overnight) as well as the beaches.

I will second this..!! We did the trip in June and it was very enjoyable.. Lots of aires if you dont want to use campsites. Easy driving and worth doing at least once in your motorhome lifetime..
We started from Calais, first night at La Crotoy aire, second night Honflour aire. Both worth a visit. Then started the WW2 trip at Pegasus bridge and followed the coast to Grandcamp-maisy.. On route back we came inland and stopped at Bayeux to visit the town and tapestry... Sure you will enjoy it...

We did a trip last year to the Somme area, a loop around Arras and Amien. Really lovely, WW1 battlefields and graves were interesting and moving, plent of space, good food. All in all a good few days. (Its in our blog - link below - under May 2010).

Depending on your sailing plans, another trip may be around the Cotentin Peninsula - the bit that sticks out with Cherbourg on the end.

I used to live on the coast there and its really nice - big beaches, open spaces. And you can go inland and mooch around Suisse-Normande. Again, its lovely, so called because it resembles a smaller version of Switzerland. If you go there make sure you sample the Calvados - the real stuff, and the Camembert.

Bon voyage! :thumb:
