I agree with Sugarnan - beautiful poppy MarilynMonroe

Many of the wonderful, talented, kind and generous people who are the funster community made poppies for me so I was able to decorate our local war memorial for armistice day and we have done that every year since. The poppies remain in place for around a week. So many people stop to have a time of quiet reflection when they see the memorial and the sculpture of the horse (made in chicken and barbed wire by my friend) and people even refer to them when giving directions. The new edition of the local guide book also mentions the poppies and that so many people gave so generously.

Motorhomed for almost 7 years - now going nowhere!
Hello everybody
Has anyone seen that post box covers that seem to be springing up everywhere? A lot are featured on Facebook, some are themed and very inventive. Taking yarn bombing to a new level. We don't have the round postboxes in our village.

Great news on the dog search. We will be adopting two gorgeous dogs on our return from holiday. We visited yesterday and fell in love straight away and were able to take them for a walk. The kennels understand about our dog-free holiday (that once in a lifetime opportunity) and are prepared to keep them for us. How good is that. We can visit every week. I won't announce it on the Morning Funsters thread just yet as we still have to have the home check - hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

2 boxes sorted this morning :) 4 to go and then I have easy access to the bookcase and cubbies - I know that one of the boxes is full of scraps of fabric and am not sure what to do with them. I did consider making strips from each piece (nothing less than 2.5" in any direction though!) and when I have time making a Chinese coin quilt

Maybe something like these, when I have the time and inclination.

The alternatives are the bin or trying to sell "patchwork scrap bags" on ebay or giving away bags of scraps. Perhaps I should take that box down to Mum and Dad's and I can cut the strips as therapy to my frustration at the situation.

Don’t throw away, if You do get to that stage, first ask your local primary school or secondary school art/textiles department.

Wow. Never throw crafty bits away. The quilt looks exciting.

Our local hospital has a box in the foyer for crafty bits/buttons etc., for the dementia blankets mentioned before on here.

You sound very organised. Puts me to shame. :0

They didn't get back to me even after two reminders so I assume they are not interested

I'm not at all organised Joy. It's more a case of if I don't do it I will not be able to open the door if anything topples!

Also our "local" hospital is 26 miles away and a little general hospital. Anything out of the usual gets sent up to Edinburgh. I think I may well just chop into strips and make a coin quilt when I get my mojo back. I just can't be bothered at the moment. If I have everything cut up it will mean that when I want to sew I can just pull out the pieces and sew straight away.

Hi Helen
If you're interested, look on Meadowgreen Dog Rescue website - and on page three of the dogs listed you will find Tilly and Lilly. There is a write-up too. I can't wait.
They do look adorable, will you keep their names? I'm sure you will give them the love & affection they need.

No - the names are too similar, they'll both come running  . I have a list of names ready and so far Pippa and Pixie are winning.
Don't you think the top one looks so much like our Teddy? She is the nervous one but you get round her by making a fuss of the other one. They were both breeding females and have had to have quite major operations so have been at the kennels 10 weeks. I don't think they have had any home life so a lot to get used to.

At this time I am trying out yarns to make a virus shawl but so far cannot concentrate. I wonder why?

This is a ‘scrap’ quilt that I made many years ago. I really need to make another to use up my bits and pieces!

Quilt as you go? It looks great - the sashing really pulls it all together.

One way to use smaller scraps :giggle:

I would never do anything like that ..... sorry but just not my thing.

snailtrailer your new ladies look lovely and I know you will be chomping to get them home and socialised.

Hi Marilyn, MarilynMonroe , nice to see you posting here.

Your poppy is lovely... Looked quite intricate.... Mine were VERY basic.

I havn't brought my craft stuff in the van..... so may have a really early night all.. A group playing in the pub nearby... I say playing not playing music... They are awful. Looks like not much sleep tonight.

Night all. X

I altered some Roman blinds and curtains for a neighbour and had odds and ends of fabric left over, so I've made them a picture! The background fabric is from my scrap box but the flowers / kites (you choose) are an adaptation of origami done in fabric rather than paper - and with more fabric to give a bit of interest.

I already had the frame :)

Next crafty job is to make a table runner and a sideboard runner and cushions now the dining room is almost finished. I am going to take part of my scrap box away with me along with cutting supplies and just make strips. I'll probably also find a few orphan blocks so can see a few totally random scrap quilts being made when I want to do so. I do have a memory quilt to make for my friend and am finding that one hard going but know once I am tidied up that instead of doing tidy up part of the day and write the other part I will be able to sew part of the day and write the other part :) I just need to finish the tidy up.

I found three MORE boxes full of stuff in the living room, tucked under a coffee table. Martin said he took them out of a cupboard in the hall and thought they needed sorting since I was in the mood to do it! I've had a quick look and one of them has my daughter's stuff in it (so when we see her she will be getting that back). One contains books and the other had a mix of stuff and is now empty. It shouldn't take long to sort but I really thought I was done. I'll have a look through the books and see what I want to keep (if any). The rest can go to a charity shop.

We are on a site near my parents and I have cut strips of some of the box of fabric scraps. It is very therapeutic ....... not just the cutting but also throwing out the unusable ends. :)

I have at least three five WIP quilts to do and I think I need to get two of those done before thinking of starting to sew another quilt which might not get finished. But I am thinking of doing a variation on a North Country Strippy but with Friendship Braid and plain strips. I'll look at the WIPs and see if I can use the blocks to make quick quilts I can use or give away if I no longer love the fabrics / designs.

Something like this but wider plain strips perhaps.

This Saturday (12 June) is Worldwide Knit in Public Day and we know that people are thinking of getting out in the good weather for Covid-compliant yarnie get-togethers.

Knitting and crochet has helped so many of us cope with lockdowns over the past year or so but we have missed meeting up in person in knitting groups. WWKIP Day seems like a great opportunity to get together for picnics, meet in gardens or to sit outside pubs and cafes to share our love of crafting.

Yet another lap blanket - this Morning I hoovered up a small mountain range of little ‘ends’ 😊. I think I will revert to smaller things for a while… or something … dunno ….

Sus3v Oooh I likes that! The colours are lovely, I think I'll get you to pick the colours for my next project, that's an art in itself. I have just started Knitcraft Water Garden and I could see a few hexagons in yours that would fit nicely into mine.

Offagain Have you any photos of your Persian Tiles which you are doing in one variegated yarn? I'd like to see the effect if it saves darning in all those ends :(

ref colours, there was a modicum of unpicking due to rethinking Combinations. I tried purple and grey, nice, but it looked like a school uniform combination 😄
I shall investigate the water garden 😊 but i Get fewer “that’s lovely mum” comments - I guess they are afraid I will generously give them the article, whereupon they might feel obliged to use the thing, and look as though they enjoy using it - lol.

the Persian tiles looks like a pattern I could get into - I have plenty of raw material 🙄🧶
small selection of DK attached 👵🏼 Fuzzy stuff is for the black sheep I have lost interest in making (until it is not the summer, because my fingers get too hot).. ‘other than’ DK stash is out of sight - elsewhere - awaiting inspiration - hidden -

I also have a mound of completed squares, but I have forgotten where i should have sent them. I shall enquire at local charity shops or Google it.

ref yarn ends - I am interested in not sewing in ends - although I cannot always remember if I have weaved them in and sew anyway.
