Just seen this on another forum.

For the wealthy amongst you ... a press release just received ...

----------------------------------------------------------

We work on behalf of Stop24 Folkestone Services and have become aware that
many caravan and motor homes owners have problems parking at motorway
services. At Stop24 Folkestone services we have listened to these problems
and changed our policy to reflect this.

We provide parking for caravans and motor homes in designated areas. The
first two hours are free and overnight parking from 18.00 – 09.30 costs £20
or 30 Euros, :Eeek:
we also offer a combined parking and food voucher for £28 or 35:Eeek:
Euros. Overnight parking includes free use of our shower facilities.

More details are available on our website www.stop24.co.uk. Please could
you pass this information on to your members who may find this useful
particularly as they set off for their summer holidays.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions. Kind
regards Angela

What a rip-off this place is. If you want to park your car for more than two hours, you pay £5 PLUS a booking fee of 20p - but you don't pre-book, just pay for the parking at the time:Eeek:.

It's unlikely we will be down that way in the near future but this is one service station I would definitely avoid.

It seems that the high charges for parking longer than two hours are based on two factors:
1) some commercial drivers have no option but to stop so they can be charged what a MSA company can get away with
2) MSA companies don't really want private vehicle drivers clogging up their car parks for longer than the two free hours which they are required to provide by their contracts, so levy a fee which puts people off.

We've all been wondering "how much" for a long time, now we know.

If you're tired, fed up, then it's only money.

Plan B - Marine Parade.

Plan B - Marine Parade.

Or closer to the Chunnel, The Black Horse, you will get a meal and stop overnight for around the same cost.
A little more welcoming than Marine Parade, especially if a westerly gale is blowing.

More than 30!
The Stop24 website now quotes the same fees.

I'm querying this with the owners of Stop24. They told me about 6 months ago that the fee for motorhomes and caravans was £5/night and confirmed in March this year that there had been no change.

I've now had confirmation, from Henry Boot who own it, that Stop24 have indeed increased the overnight fee for caravans and motorhomes by 400% to £20

Won't be stopping there then...

The most expensive, could be Norton Canes on the M6 Toll
First two hours free for all vehicles, after which cars must pay £10 and HGVs, caravans and coaches £18, or £20 to include a £10 food voucher.

Remember you have to pay the toll fee to get to it..£10.60

Damned shame about jnct 11..

We used to stop there regularly and spent a fair bit in the shop(s) and fast food places..

Still I am sure they will be able to live without the lolly of motorhomers !

( What is really daft is that we ( as in the few vans that were normally plotted up ) were always stuck right out the way at the end on the coach park..

All in all greedy folk lose out yet again !

Its true that they dont give a toss whether MH's park there or not. I was at Reading serviced last night and only just got in (HGV), many others are the same. On average, i pay £21.50 (just gone up) and get a £9 food voucher and a shower this is at MOTO sites, Clacket Lane charge £30 and we are told not to use them:Eeek:, unfortunatly, if our tachos say stop, we stop and the services owners know this.
In our MH, we paid £16 going down to Devon, bu tits never wise to try to avoid it...EVERY vehcile parking is on camera, and if you dont pay, the registered keeper will get the bill...so they say:Blush:, I would,nt use an Mway service area again...ive got "hgv break laybys" as a POI onthe tomtom, so would use them instead,...or anywhere cheaper than services.

i dont stop at the black horse anymore as we now stop at the drum inn only 5 mins away from the tunnel where you can stop and have a meal and a pint
you can arrive later than the silly 8.00pm rule travelling out but anytime of night if coming from france at the black horse

good pub good food and ideal for a one night stopover
