And when u get fed up with mainland France there are always the overseas territories. The ones in the Caribbean are quite pleasant (but watch out for dengue fever). I quite fancy trying the ones in the Indian Ocean (but perhaps a bit close to the current plague hotspot this year).

I've not travelled a lot in France, but have visited Brittany, the Languedoc, the Loire Valley and Biarritz several times each. It's all good, and now we've got our MoHo we plan to do as much of the rest as we can as well as revisting old favourites. We speak enough French to get by on, which undoubtedly helps, and have had some spectacularly good evenings / early mornings in bars off the beaten track with locals.

You need to get below the Loire to guarantee sunshine.

Ask for anything 'du Terroir' to get brownie points in bars and restuarants.

Do not try Andouillette. It's made from the very, very back end of a pigs intestines and smells and tastes as you might expect. If you get offered some and accept, you will find a lot of people discreetly watching you, pointing and giggling.

Forget any notion of reasonable space around your vehicle. You sometimes feel like the teeth in a zipper when joining moving traffic. But it all works.

Just everything, almost anything you can find anywhere else in France will be in langadoc with good weather.

Absolutely. The Loire is in effect the boundary between a climate similar to ours in England, and the Mediterranean climate.

I always go far enough South West until there are shallow pitched roofs with clay tiles - that reflects the low rainfall. And sunshine. If you go East again you will notice the steep pitched roofs. Not too keen on places like Dordogneshire (Perigord if you are French) where the summers are shorter and they have more rainy days. Also I try to stay clear of most Tourist traps and cities, with some exceptions like Carcasonne.

I agree, they re very conservative and why should they be compelled to speak English because some 'Rosbif' is lost?

Approaching them in French is usually welcomed ( there are exceptions but we also have our share of grumpy gits). I had schoolboy French which I ve built upon with a dictionary and a couple of courses at our local adult education centre. I'm still a long way from fluent and can flounder at times but a little effort can go a long way. I bought our current MH totally in French, the vendor spoke not one word of English.
I do try to communicate with them in their native tongue but its fair to say my French is merde.

After many visits to France at up to 3 months at a time, I find the best plan is don’t have a plan, I’ve driven as far as 5 miles on occasion and just stopped again, and also from one end to the other in a day just to get somewhere. Slow and relaxed is best and if you like where you are just stop. I’ve ended up in the dunes on the Coast (Pornic, Vendee etc) and ended up staying for two or three weeks cos it was so nice.

That said the immediate area around La Rochelle in Dept 17 has a recognised micro-climate. It's often one of the sunniest areas in France. My late father-in-law extensively researched this before moving that area.

Just a thought, if France is still on curfew and I get off the chunnel (travel permitting) at 0.55 how do I go on getting out of the terminal, or will the gendarmes park us up till 6.00 am. Or will they even let us on the train at 23.20 in Blighty? spitfire ?

Its all good! Zig-zag your way around for a couple of months taking advantage of the village aires. Usually free with maybe 2euros for water. Or favourites: Dordogne and Begerac.

Isnt it on 9th June? Macron has also been reported as saying 9th June for 3rd Countries ( which is us) albeit a little vague around the vaccination/testing requirements (Should there be a smilie here? I'm really not sure)

Depends what you mean by 'working'. Most work has no restrictions & anything goes in all countries. My neighbour drives & curfews do not apply if it is work related.

I’m UK based but need to travel to France, Belgium and Italy. That has been “a little challenging” recently. I’m hoping I can get to our sites in Europe without the need to spend two weeks in
quarantine every time I go and come back!

PS I’m fully vaccinated! :france:

Languedoc for me, arriving from the west via Carcassonne and down to the coast, love it round Argeles sur mer and Collioure. Visit the old Roman town of Nimes or the nearby Pont du Gard Roman Aquaduct. You can even nip into Spain or Andorra, only a couple of hours to Barcelona.

The only area we found unbelievably boring and would never visit again is the coastline around Arcachon. We went with the children , after 5 days we moved back up to the Vendee.
