Anyone thinking of going Jan 2022 yet?

Probably a bit early to decide but just thinking ahead - hopefully pandemic will be in the rear window. We have been a couple times before with Desert Detours but hoping to perhaps cross over with someone else for company at least through the border so thought I would start a thread.

We did Morocco in 2008 with Dessert Detours, enjoyed it immensely . We did it in the McLouis 2 months before the Augusta was delivered.

I would do it again, but 2022 is the US tour for me, so I'll be saving my $'s

Maybe 2023.

We did it twice in a group of 6 or 7 vans - free driving during the day but meeting up at a known spot in the evening and made life easy - thumb in bum and mind in neutral and just enjoyed the sites.

Thoroughly enjoyed it - very friendly and some brilliant sites from steep gorges and mountain passes to desert sand and old casbahs. Marrakech was fascinating, markets are amazing. Essouaria was relaxing by the sea. Absolutely worth a visit and makes you feel like you are REALLY getting away in your motorhome.

Bad bits - so many people and so busy when you are trying to get in across the border. You can and will get hassled to buy something and visit "my brothers" shop - but if you take it all in good spirit you will be fine.

I will post a couple of photos from our trip

Al n Val We did it first with Desert Detours then twice with Fellow member's of Motorhome Fun,. while we enjoyed the introduction with Desert Detours, we enjoyed much more the freedom of meeting up with and travelling with other Funsters it's very worth going back in the search facility to read the Motorhome Fun Moroccan travels.

Theres a lot of "ifs" attached at the moment but we might well be interested. Main one being elderly dog. If he still with us say in October would be a "no" for winter 2022. However would like the idea of crossing together then getting together each evening on a roundabout tour

Yes, we have an eye to go over. In preparation mode already around the green card. So changing insurance company to SAGA who are giving free green card, including Morocco. Comfort not doing green card from now on

Spent eleven weeks touring Morocco several years ago. Fantastic experience and hope to overwinter there 21-22.
However, insurance now seems to be a problem with companies such as Comfort no longer issuing a green card from January this year. I believe SAGA do.
Advantages include good weather, less expensive than European destinations and , of course, not part of 90 day rule.
I believe you can only spend three months there, but add some time in Spain and that should see the winter through😃

We are planning to go, hopefully!
Still too early to make arrangements.
Good idea to check the insurance out, ours is out of ,tax, mot and insurance at the moment, or has been for the last year.

Our plans to go over before the pandemic were scuppered - ironically for personal health reasons and not the pandemic - and we are still very keen to visit.
The only concern I have relates to a possible/probable return of restrictions in Spain once we are in Morocco and resulting in us being unable to ship back. I believe that there were many units stranded in Morocco for quite a while last year and whilst many found it heavenly, we would need to get back into Europe at some point of our choosing.

Ps: Many thanks for the Insurance company pointers. We have been with Safeguard for the last 13 years and will now look at the alternatives who offer a green card with their policy.

NFU are my insurer. They will provide green card, third party cover in Morocco
I’m sure the information is probably in the depths of previous Morocco threads but we also have nfu insurance but I wouldn’t like to have just 3rd party insurance do you get a top up from someone else or just wing it.

Not sure that anything more than third party is available from anyone. Would be good to know.
I thought I heard you could top up at the border but zi may be wrong about that. Hopefully someone will be along with more knowledge.

Now in fifth year and with American RV
You are correct and it is only third party, no fire &theft etc. The fully comp cover is really a UK thing, in most of Europe you insure your vehicle for the compulsory third party risk, any further cover has to be negotiated separately with company of your choice, very expensive and not popular. For instance my RV TPO this year is about 180 euros, on value of 36k euro the CASCO ( comprehensive ) cover the premium would be circa 3000 euro ! The system here in eastern Europe is that, in the event of incident/accident involving damage and or injury, the traffic police are called, they attend and investigate who is at fault, they issue a " protocol " document which the innocent party gives to their insurer who then pursues the third party insurer for damage costs which are normally agreed and settled quite speedily. The third party cover is issued on the vehicle not the driver so any properly licenced person can drive, green cards are issued automatically and cover all European countries plus many more. There is no NCB with any of our insurances, hope this helps.

Mike

On the AA website it states that with AA insurance for 90 days in Europe you have full cover - the equivalent of your policy in the UK. They do not cover Morocco though

My NFU cover is fully comp in Europe for 180 days - but only third party for Morocco
