Peugeot Boxer 2.0 ad blue Euro 6. Elddis Magnum 185. Not been anywhere for the last year, started yesterday ( no probs) to move it & noticed ‘Change Engine Oil’ message on dash. Only 3500 miles since new (2019). Does anybody know if there is a way to delete the message or is it a dealer job? Oil can’t be that contaminated, surely? Thanks

Oil needs to be changed on age as well as mileage. Depends which comes first.

The decision whether to change the engine oil is yours but the reset for the light is very simple..

For others reading this we have a Ford 2016 that is on a recall for the oil warning change coming on too frequently. We got one message after 5,000 milesish and exactly a year after service.

Not an oil change warning but if you have your vehicle serviced make sure that they reset the service warning as we found its something that you can't do yourself and if you have it on for too long the vehicle will eventually go into limp mode, we ended up having to have a garage in France do an oil change again and reset it otherwise we wouldn't have made it back to the UK - the garage that did our service in the UK had to pay for the lot but it as lot of aggro we could've done without.

Thanks for all the replies & advice (y), (esp Bluemanc100 & Langtoftlad) got the light & message reset, now just book an oil change at a nearby independent next month for when we (hopefully) start using it again & take it off SORN. Wasn't sure if they would be able to do the reset. Thanks all again. No doubt about it - this is a brilliant forum (y).

I love having a reminder... I hate being nagged... so being able to turn it off is a godsend....
...should be a button though, not some secret code.

So, you buy 5ltrs of oil and leave it in the container for a year.
Or... You buy 5ltrs of oil and pour it in the engine but don't run the engine for a year....

Where's the difference, both lots of oil are in sealed containers and unused..

Oil deteriorates with use, not time.
F.F.S, its been in the ground for millenia

The warning is for people with more money than sense

Is that true ?, in a bottle the oil is not sat in metal which may have contaminates stuck to it and when they do an oil change they never get all the old oil out so the new will mix with that. It has also been exposed to the air.

Why not get the oil checked first, if it's okay no need to the change.

You could have it checked for viscosity. I would not change it as it has not been used just stored in a different container as stated
I’m with Pappajohn on this.

The company I worked for before retirement operated around a hundred company cars. All had to complete at least 100,000 miles before being replaced.
A percentage were put on an oil change regime, whereby the oil was tested at intervals. Then it would be changed or not, based on the test results.
Some cars covered huge mileages without oil changes and they had no engine failures.
The company saved a great deal of money.

Ah yes,but what if the container has become contaminated,if only to a minimal degree? I’d rather spend a few quid to be certain it’s clean. It’s only money and you can’t take it with you. :giggle:

I'm a Total Newbie!
I'm no expert but as I understand it oil should be changed on age as well as miles driven. How long ago did you have the van serviced?

Personally if I had a lovely, nearly new van that's got to be worth £20K or more, I'd get an oil change and protect that investment.

On thing to remember is that the service interval on Fiats is 2 years ... if they definitely needed an oil change every year you can be sure it would be a requirement for warranty purposes.

Plus when it comes to selling some like to see a full regular yearly service regardless of miles in the book...👍🏼
I agree with you plus if you have an insurance claim, write off or theft claim if you can prove you take care of your vehicle you get another positive tick from the insurance investigator.

Personally I do not get why people do not understand why Oil is so important and should be changed regularly. Its the stuff that protects the engine. I do mine annually the temperatures the engine gets up to, the micro metal and other particulates that are suspended in for oil will wear the engine. so for a few quid refreshing the oil the engine will be kept in the best possible condition.

Modern fully synthetic oils - do they really deteriorate in an unused vehicle? The 7 litres of oil for that engine (Total Quartz Ineo First 0w30) is probably some of the most expensive you can buy.

I worked for Jaguar before I retired and remember having a discussion with our lubrication specialist. He wanted to know if I changed my oil every year in my hobby car (Porsche911, I know had a lot of stick from work colleagues 😂. But drive Jaguar as company car, still do) when I said yes he said why. If I was going to do that then don’t put fully synthetic oil in it, I was wasting my money. The purpose of the full synthetic was to extend life. Biggest killer to oil is short journeys and not getting up to temperature. Cold start bore wash dilutes oil with fuel, not getting fully warm allows condensation inside engine to contaminate oil. Motorhomes in the main don’t do regular short journeys unlike your daily car, so don’t suffer from as much dilution. That’s why i never just start mine and let in run for a while on the drive, it doesn’t get up to temperature enough to offset cold start dilution

We had the same message come up a couple of years ago, unfortunately whilst were on holiday in Sweden. Managed to get breakdown to take us to a mechanical garage, where the oil was changed.
Garage manager did explain that Fiat Ducato have two service settings, one for general service schedule, and one for oil change, and it’s likely the previous garage who did our service did not reset the oil change indicator, so the system thought we had not changed it.

With Fiat and maybe Peugeot if you turn on the headlight stalk and hold it for 5 seconds it clears. You can look up on utube as well Did my Mokka this way only yesterday.
