You can get ones that go on a mast or just sit in the van, they are directional so in the vans a better idea. I have I use in the boat.

Reminds me somehow of the old "cat's whisker" radios from a while ago...

Apparently they work quite well, but need to be directed towards the strongest signal.

This is the one I use and it will work with Windows and Linux. I made a stand from wood that I put on the MH roof held by some Velcro I stuck up there. This one is omni directional.

It's amazing how many more hits you can get with one of these, even though many will be protected by passwords.
