OK, so I've been looking at m/homes online for a while.
I live in France, may be returning to UK in foreseeable future.
Have driven a m/home before but not much and only because I had to. I'm a confident driver once I get going but tend to believe nowadays I can't do things (long story)

Well, English m/home is for sale a few kms from me. I know of the owner & all seems above board.
It is far from new!!!! But small enough for me to drive OK.
It is very little money (prob about £700 max)
Described as "Coachbuilt Ford Transit Multicruiser"
Mileage showing as 73K but cannot be verified by paperwork.

Good things are:
Dry inside
Kitchen has all been replaced fairly recently, full size cooker, fridge, good size sink.
Upholstery all very clean and tidy.
Front seat almost new & recently fitted tyres all round.
Cam belt recently replaced
Starts fine, no exhaust smoke

Bad bits:
Side external compartments need hinges replacing/welding
Sills at front need replacing (no other rust visible--underneath looked OK to me)
It will need a new exhaust sooner rather than later.
It has one cracked side window (plastic) Can this be replaced?

It has a loo and basin in a little compartment, Could I get a shower floor fitted and a shower head?
I'd also need to get an awning fitted.

So your views and advice, please, would be much appreciated.
Have a garage in local town who could do work.
Is it worth me buying as a bit of a project, use it maybe for a year to get my confidence up, travel a bit with the dogs?
Or does this need too much ?

I'm guessing that this motorhome is probably 25 years old and could be in great condition but could also be a massive bundle of trouble, when they are that old you do have to be careful. Its difficult to say without seeing it, why not pop along and take a few pictures and let us take a look at what you are buying. Best of luck:thumb:

As Jim says, need more information but don't forget it will need a new UK MOT
to drive it here.

Awnings are not cheap and putting a shower in could be expensive

Thanks--other option to UK MOT is to register it here in France and need to see garage man tomorrow to get a quote on that.

Just turned out that when I enquired I sort of know the owner and it is about half hour drive from where I live.

Decided to pass on it. By the time I've paid for it to have work done, added bits I need, I'd be paying more than it's be worth.

So will have to wait til Autumn when all guests have gone and then look in the UK.

Certainly looked like it from the ebay pics, you can see the chassis rails at the side.

Hi £700 is no money at all for a dry van that runs. Irrespective of age. I doubt you will be able to register/MOT it in FRance being RHD, seems they are funny about that. Still worth getting a mechanic to check it over. If it is relatively rust free and running gear/brakes are good you may not have to spend a fortune to make it a useable van. A shower can be done quite cheaply if you are handy with a few tools, (Its not as though you will devalue it, hee hee) So don't dismiss it out of hand be aware you can register a LHD in the UK no problem if you live here but not the other way around so it really depends on where you will eventually be living. As to driving it don't worry about that, your brain will adapt faster than you think and it will be like second nature within a few hours. You could pick up a drive away awning very cheaply compared to a fixed awning. I see people mentioning the multicruiser being a demountable, not too sure about that, but if it is then thats a plus as you could ditch the base vehicle and replace it. I'd love a £700 demountable to go on my old landrover. So don't dismiss it out of hand.I am sure there are members who could quote you for the work you need doing.
