hello all, sad question alert:

water tank exterior locking cap will not lock - do I need to bother replacing it? (am I ever likely to get the tank "spiked"?). Is this just a personal peace-of-mind thingy?
thanks and have a good day.

Chances are you will not have a problem.

Try to free it as suggested, if you still cannot get it to lock its just whether you want to pay a few quid for that "piece of mind".:thumb:

Another method that seems to work have done it a few times drop cap into a bowl of hot water, this seems to free them up don't know why only know it has worked the few times I have tried it.

I would get it fixed as Tuggers are notorious for emptying their waste hogs or in extreme cases Thetfords into unlocked ones. I thought everyone knew that?

Had the same problem, WD40, loads of jiggling and it was fine.

if i saw ANYONE attempting this they would need surgery to have their face removed from said thetford/wastehog

These caps seem to have a useful life of about three months before they pack up.

Has anyone out there had longer out of theirs?!

We had the ones on our previous van for 2 years had 2 water tanks with the occasional warm water treatment still working OK when we sold it.

Never used WD40 as was told that it rotted plastic.

Thanks to all for your replies

OK I have learned:

1. Hot Water
2. Jiggle it
3. WD40
4. Jiggle it
5. Get a new one
6. Keep an eye out for (suspicious) types with caravans....

8 years ish
The tank lock on the Mobilvetta I've just changed worked backwards, ie unlock to lock and vice versa.
I know it sounds daft, but they are Italian!

Mine is very temperamental, has refused to lock on a couple of occasions, then as if by magic it works fine again. I find that prayer seems to give most success.

Thanks for the ebay link, ours has just been smashed to bits after refusing to come off. Second one on an 07 van as this one is a replacement. Obviously a design classic.
