Overnight Stop Brecon? (1 Viewer)

We have to travel from the far east (Norfolk) to the far west (Pembroke Dock) in a few weeks time. We plan to try & get as far as we can after leaving work and think we should manage to get to approx Brecon for an overnight stop we have found info that you can park overnight in car parks in Brecon, has anyone done this? And if so is any car park better than the others to use?

Hi If you search on here you will find someone has posted a wild camping spot just outside brecon next to river. We visited the area last october but parked up at friends but we had a list of farm campsites im sure we got it off their tourist board sites ranging from £5 up.

Not sure I would go via Brecon to Pembroke. Wouldn't it be quicker on the M4?

We are not bothered so much about the time taken obviously we do have a deadline but we have found a better route which have used many times via the A14, & across country. To get to the M4 we have to go round the M25 & every time we have to go that way it's a car park & sitting amongst lorries chucking out fumes is not much fun on a Friday evening apart from the drivers who change lanes & cut you up! Also using the A14 etc we pass some lovely scenery & places to stop for a 'cuppa'. We don't have to be at Pembroke until early Saturday afternoon so we can amble along enjoying the veiws!

if you use the carparks in Breacon , go for the one in the town as opposed to the one on the outskirts down by the river

One in Town is quiet and you there are bays for large vehicles tucked away in the corner, whereas the one on the edge of town is a magnet for local youth to congregate, no trouble just noise!!

We found a couple of nice spots for wild camping a couple of months ago, one just off the A470 and the other near Tal-y-Bont reservoir.

They're both marked on the little map on our blog post about the trip (link below).

Have used both of these without any problems, the one in town is very handy if you want to go into town for a meal or drink in the evening, you can park easily in the longer bays in corner here. There are 2 car parks by the river, the furthest one here is a huge grass area that is available for parking in the summer, the other one here is open all year but doesn't really have any long bays, although we tucked our 7.8m van in by the wall next to the entrance without causing an obstruction.

Overnighting is definitely OK, Powys Council allow 1 night in 7 in many of their car parks, if there are any 'No Camping' signs in place they refer to tent camping.

Thanks for all your useful replies from them it looks as if we should fine a 'good spot'. :thumb:
We are heading to Pembroke Dock as we are heading over to Ireland for approx 3 weeks (mid June) so that will be my next question any tips or places/ camps to avoid in Ireland both North + Republic, better start a new thread for that tho!
