Advice needed quick on battery (1 Viewer)

Just setting up for Carmathen and I had a smell in my van for a few days now.

Anyway bad this morning so traced it easier it's a yearand a bit old Lemax (spelling) bettery cooking, now i have spare batteries in my RV 130 miles awayoh:

Do I go to the show and buy another battery or get the charging system checked out?

pop into an auto electricians if there is one handy or call out the AA if you have cover. When you say cooking what do you mean exactly. Is it being over charged?

You put a voltmeter on the battery when on charge.

You check the fluid level if you can, should do once a month if possible.

Cost of 260 miles plus disturbing working system bad.

New battery will need charging, also bad.

Think overcharged as hot, smelling of eggs and warm to the touch.

Going to the show and when cooler will try and remove top without mangling it, check water but suppose to be non maimtainance.

If battery wont take charge from solar will buy a new one and only ujse solar to maintain it.

Me thinks its a expencive charger going to be replaced.

I do recall that the smell of BAD EGGS was produced in 'naughty' Chemistry lessons during school days. Pretty certain its was called Hydrogen Sulphide.....which am also fairly certain is produced by Lead/acid batteries under certain conditions....ie Over charging.

Come on you 'Funsters' and own up to such naughty antics...a long time ago:Blush:

Tis a year old battery knackered, got all my window open at Camarthen but cant loose the rotten egg smell as yet:Blush::Blush:

Roger the folding solar panels have built in regulators but been on hook up for last week or so. Ta for your input though.

Whilst SOME folding solar panels are supplied with a seperate regulator. Most only have a box containing the diodes to prevent reverse current flow at night time. Worth checking with your supplier. If boiled on solar without a regulator, then put on hookup the damage will already have been done and smell still exist.

how big is your solar panel John ?

small ones (up to 30w or so) dont need a controller/regulator.

dont know of anything bigger not needing a controller or any having one inbuilt.
