The only time I ever rode a horse was when wife, mother and me hired horses to ride the Doone Valley at Malmsmead. Mother fell off, much to our amusement, and the horses did pretty much as they pleased, grazing and drinking from the river most of the time. I'll get an automatic if ever we do it again.

8! Flipping heck - did you manage to ever sleep!
And I worked full time, at one point I was running my own business and I did all of it on my way to work and on my way home.
I couldn't cope with one now.
I'm not fit enough to ride anymore, I used to go riding with a late friend of mine for 4-5 hours at a time, with regular stops for the horses of course. I rode western then & Kaja was bitless, so she could have a bite of grass.
I miss Kaja the most of all, she was a cowbag, but I loved her so much.
I rode her & carriage drove her.

Wife has horse and son has a pony. Definitely money well spent. Keeps said wife and child happy. And if management is happy, I have more chance of going on a pub stop with mates in the van. Well I did in previous years. Not been able to take quite as good advantage this year.
Wrong sort of horsepower for me but even I have grown to love spending time with them - usually when it’s dark and teeming with rain, and suddenly « they’re your horses too! »
Fully understand the rug situation Mrsambulancekidd - our two both have a better wardrobe than I and guess what they are getting for Christmas? Yep, new jackets. They have a coat for everything. Wind from the East, rain from the West, drizzle from the South. They even have pyjama coats for when it’s cold in their stables, and the equine equivalent of Christmas jumpers.

Wow 8 horses or 20 horses, you guys are nuts:LOL: but i bet you loved every minute of it (apart from the rain and mud).

According to my wife, the horse was free and it doesn't eat, doesn't need a farrier and comes with a Korean car manufacturers 7 year warranty so no vet bills. I think's she's getting me back for all the "free/discounted" bikes I've bought over the years:unsure:

Anyway the date is set for this Saturday to go and move her to the news stables that are just down the road. She's a 14yr old Mare with a smidge of Arab, a different kettle of fish to the last horse we had in the UK that turned out to be a rig, oh what fun he was:whistle:

There's some lovely routes to hack out on including a large forest and with easy access straight from the farm.

So here's the little lady:

She's actually predominantly Lusitano and was imported from Portugal when she was about 6yrs old (i managed to speak the importer who actually lives about 20mins away). But like most things in life she needs work, oh boy does she:oops: but that's all part of the fun.

On a positive note the 5 ladies of the house have never been away from the house so much, which leaves me to have sensible conversations with the dog:LOL:

Nice looking beast! I’ve been instructed to ask how big your new steed is?
