I purchased a new mountain bike last year made by Specialized .. Now, I enjoy a cycling and am reasonably fit.. but don't think I'm up to this .. well, not this year anyway :roflmto:

Anyone fancy this ?

An email from Specialized

Dear James,

Specialized are delighted to announce their association with Right To Play in an effort to help raise fund for the Children's charity.

Right To Play are organising a completely unique multi-day ride supported by Specialized - 'Ride to the Tour' (29th June- 2nd July). Riders will not only get to see the end of the first stage of the Tour, but will meet Team HTC-Highroad during a behind the scenes tour.

Mark Cavendish, Right To Play Athlete Ambassador and winner of 10 Stages of the Tour de France said: "It's the closest you can get to the Tour de France without competing with myself and team HTC-Highroad for the green jersey ... See you at the finish line in France."

[HI]The Ride to the Tour will depart from the home of Harlequins R.F.C., the Stoop and will finish 350 miles and 4 days later in Les Herbiers where riders will watch the 1st day of the Tour de France. [/HI]This is the ultimate ride open to everyone; from first time cyclists to veterans of the cycling world. The route is unique and travels through beautiful British countryside, French vineyards and famous chateaus. Former England and Harlequins Scrum Half, Andy Gomarsall will be taking part as part of the 200 strong team of riders.

Our goal at Specialized is to help maximise the exposure of the charity and to help raise more funds through an incentive programme for participants. You can win equipment and a bike depending on how much money you raise for Right To Play. The more you raise the more you get!

We hope you can help us support Right To Play by taking part in the ride.

For complete details on the ride and the incentives programme go to www.righttoplay.org.uk/cycle.

Happy Cycling

Mines a Hardrock as well, but no way as posh as yours about 20 years old now, they are on the back of the RV now to go to Newark we have not used them for over six years, so I might just get a shock, used them a fair bit when in Florida, just need to use them and get a bit more fit and not work so much :ROFLMAO: I will try and find the model and let you know, I can remember when we bought them they were over $350 each and I could have bought a bike in wallyworld for 65 bucks.

All the best sorry you are not going to be there this weekend, but if you ever get a tow bar the caravan is always there if you want to use it.

Rick.

Rick.

Thanks again for the generous offer Rick.. .. would have loved to be at Newark to meet up, but too many other financial demands this year .. Number 4 son getting married next month, French school trip for Chaz .. decorating house, putting drive in.. bla bla bla .. so no chance of a van this year .. even a tow bar is low priority at the mo..

have a great week end .. Jim

It is do-able although will be very hard on a Mountainbike

Up to 120 miles is Ok for a day ride but that equates to 87 miles each day for four days and as run by specialized I'll bet it'll be run at an average speed of 18mph + .

You will need copious amounts of.....ahem......chamois cream

Was contemplating LEJOG myself slightly more sedate 1000+miles in 14 days!

Since 2005! 2000+ nights so far...
Specialized here too - hardrock pro disk (for me) and Myka Elite for the wife.

Paid £430 new for mine (instead of £599) and £500 for the Myke (instead of £679)

Just had a month in the Alps on them on the downhills - pushed them and us more than I thought. Burnt out the brake pads in 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!!! Bikes survied reasonably well though both needed to go to the repair shop (once when someone drove over me in a car, and Mels when she went A over T big time....)

Not much else in that price range would have survived.

edit: We're planning on using the bikes (with road tyres) on a north-->south france cycle ride with backpack and tent next year over a couple of months.
