Can anyone tell us how to get the barrel from the centre of the lock?
Key will turn but it doesn't lock. Have tried WD40 to free it but to no avail.

If memeory serves its a well documented problem, me seems to think the lock is not removeable as its a factory push and click assembly
A new one is the cure:cry:

If its one like this

you can buy the cap without a lock (I know Chelston sell them) and then you cut the old cap in half and remove your lock. Then you carefully tap the lock into the new cap, making sure the cutouts are aligned. Cap now works and with your original keys.:thumb:

I assumed the lock is knackered and he wants to replace the barrel with a new one, or maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Brand new ones don't work!, or didn't when I bought one new in 2006. It used to be a common topic on forums, I thought maybe they had fixed the problem. Some people lock them easy, others struggle, maybe there is a knack, or maybe you need to be a magician:Smile:

Is it, perhaps, the case that the cap isn't properly in position before the key is used? I've seen some people insert the cap and then try to lock it without first twisting it into position.

The cap has to be twisted clockwise a small way before the key is used to lock it. It should then move freely in either direction without coming out. To remove, it should be unlocked and then be twisted anti-clockwise before being pulled out.

Thanks for all your replies. Will give the suggestions a go and let you know. It was a new cap last year. We'd had the same problem with the previous one!

about 2 years ago I had one that would not lock, also the hand grip would turn without any stop, I found that the inner part of the plastic assembly had come unglued from the outer cover, a few drops of super glue fixed it.

Hi JG32
I Have never had much luck with that type of cap, the one on at present does'nt lock but stays in place, I did at one time for the Bessaccar buy a fiamma cap and conecting unit that one had lugs like on a petrol cap and I did find that ok, I am sorry now it went with the van on changing. oil and WD40 are not the best way to free up a jambed lock, regular use of graphite dust is the answer. Buy it from most motor factors.
