Got our Daisey from the Labradoodle Trust.. £300.
The dog was fully vaccinated and spayed (no more unwanted dogs from one possible source)
We, our house and land were fully vetted (no pun intended) by a visitor from the Trust then a decision was made at higher level.
Part of her history was her previous owner was an alcoholic and while she was well treated physically half the time the owner didn't know she had a dog.... or anything else... so she was convinced to give her up before she was forced to.
An extremely responsible rehoming group in my opinion an worth every penny.

Anyone who just hands over dogs for cash with no background checks just doesn't deserve any respect in my book.

Now if only they'd come and take the hair shedding terrorist back

Thanks everyone for getting back and posting threads.
Tried a few of the suggestions, then Christmas came and went. To Spain via France January 5th and came home March 15th and you know the rest.
But the plan is to re-tax after Sorning the Moho on Wednesday and up and about again.
So, yes still looking for a small buddy.

Have had several over the past, Whippet, 2 Rough Collies and 2 Border Collies. But like to adopt something like a Cairn, Westie Jack Russel.
Checking the web, masses of adverts for Free Dogs, and then the next line says Puppies for Sale, talk about fish bait. Wish that the Advertising Agency would get to grip with this false advertising. Ok Gripe over. Anybody still reading, so looking for a small a dog, moho friendly. Any real suggestions, other than give a dogs home several hundred pounds for something they got for free.
Yes but it a good cause and rescue the dogs

Unfortunately I suspect there will be a few dogs needing new homes soon as those 'on furlough' who got them whilst stuck at home will find that when they go back to work they can't just leave them at home all day.

Probably not properly socialised or able to be left on their own either after the last few weeks. Makes me so mad when I hear of people who take on puppies so casually and then give up on them because they are naughty or become too much hard work after the novelty has worn off.

We are also fans of The Dog’s Trust.

Animal history and behaviour are always explained and prospective new owners are throughly “vetted” before taking the dog.

Our last dog, our much loved and much travelled GSD/Border Collie X was from them 15 years ago. At the time the “adoption” fee was £70 but that included spaying and first injections. We agreed to take her as an eight week old puppy but she acquired a digestive system infection. The Dog’s Trust refused to let her go until she had been treated and was fully well again, all at their own expense, even though we had officially adopted her three days before.

She travelled Europe with us visiting 12 countries and filling two Pet Passports. I would have a rescue dog from the Dog’s Trust with total confidence.

Unfortunately, after having dogs continuously for over 50 years we have decided to have no more. At our age it is quite possible that they would outlive us, giving a rehousing problem. We are now doing the things that it wasn’t fair to do when we owned dogs, like visiting museums, Cathedrals etc.

However, over 50 years of love and companionship have been invaluable to state of mind.

We have always had rescue dogs. The first 2 were from Crete, the 3rd from RSPCA and now we have 2 from here.

The first one, Barley, was originally a street dog in Portugal. The second one, Clover, was in a puppy farm in Ireland. They are both brilliant dogs with very different personalities but are the very best of friends, extremely affectionate and obedient. Couldn't ask for 2 nicer dogs - we adore them.

MY advice is do get a dog, any breed/crossbreed, but let the dog choose you. Whatever it costs will be repaid a thousand times over in love, loyalty and protection.
I had a very nervous rescue German shepherd, she had got used to the company of other dogs and disliked being on her own, she tolerated the cat, but it wasn't the same. Heard from a friend that her brothr's neighbours dog had had pups and they were looking for homes for them. Went with my son ad a good look at the pups and chose one. On the way out of the door another pup started pulling at my trouser leg and wouldn't let go, asked it I coud change my mind and have her instead. Best dog, a right 57, I ever had she certainly chose us.
No pets now as we don't like the idea of leaving them in the van alone even for a short time. when we finish travelling we will adopt one which is really old to give it a couple of good years, know my son would take one on if anything happened to us.

Please do consider a rescue centre. Lots have puppie. I know it is a long way away but Galway SPCA often have puppies of all breeds. Ireland has a worse problem than the UK with abandoned dogs. This centre will rehome in the U.K. Have a look at their website.

One of ours, sadly no longer with us, also came from Ireland through a contact in our local rescue centre. We later met a couple of the ladies from the group who put up the money to pay for the pound release and organised the trip to the UK.

One of our two French Bulldogs.......she’s a rescue dog. She’d been repetitively bred from in a domestic puppy farm.
The missus occasionally helps the French Bulldog Saviours rescue charity with home checks and road trains to transport rescue dogs. She was asked to collect this one from Newcastle and take it to Wetherby the following day for its onward journey to a new life.

I knew from the minute I put her in the car, that she wasn’t going to make it to Weatherby....and the rest is history.

Tiny in stature but massive in personality and all she wants is the love she never seen in her early years.

We've been keeping an eye open for a companion Westie for our Jamie - they're obviously extremely popular because we've found precisely nothing! Well except for a litter in the south of the UK where they wanted £3,000!!! If anyone knows of a puppy or younger dog (not a bitch) we'd be very interested.

Fabulous, mine too! So much of me would love another dog but I'm now happy stroking others. Would even be open to doggy sitting for a week or two.
A lot of dog rescue charity’s often look out for short term emergency ‘foster’ parents for dogs being rescued ......but be very careful as it quite often ends in another ‘family’ member....I can testify!😂

We are on rescue dog number three now. All of them have had some issues but just to give them a second chance means so much to us.
The first was a medical nightmare from the local Blue Cross. She produced seven pups three weeks after we brought her home, They was Christmas Eve.
The vet from the Blue Cross set the RSPCA on us for miss treating her and letting her run free threatening us with prosecutions for animal cruelty.
We asked a local vet to check her and the pups over and they were horrified about what had happened. We never heard any more from the RSPCA and the Blue Cross apologised for there vet letting a dog out of there care in that condition. They dismissed the vet and payed for further vets bills including a major operation because she was deaf. Her ears were blocked solid.
Number two was taken very ill one night and the on call emergency vet was from the Blue Cross and they remembered us. They were so lovely and managed to save her.
Number three is still with us and is another loving if now old and decrepit muttly. We know his time is getting short but he will see out his time with all the love and attention we can give him.

What a minefield, some of these web sites offering dogs advertised over 2 years ago. Look further and a lot of the sites are selling kit, like bowls, food etc, Scammers. Type dogs homes or shelters and nothing genuine. Internet is corrupt.

Here are our 2, Ozzy the Cockapoo is 12 this October, he has had 2 cancerous masses removed from his ‘business end’ and a load of chemo. He’s now on chemo maintenance tablets but we have to go back in a couple of weeks as they think it might be coming back 😞 he’s a fighter tho, still his usual self at the mo. 👍
Vinnie the frenchie is 3 and he’s just a snuggly snoring little baby, he’s got 2 modes - manic and asleep 😆 he loves Ozzy tho and they are a right pair together.

Can’t wait to get the MH and start our adventures, they will both love it and we’ll have some great memories of Ozzy to look back on 🐾

Have you heard of the Cinnamon Trust? They will look after dogs from elderly people. Help with temporary carers, rehome with similar people if the worst happens and failing that keep the dogs in a house altogether. Well worth a look. No person should be without all that love and companionship only a Dog can give just because they are getting older. We've had dogs for 56yrs. Lots when we were breeding and showing. Only 2 now but we will never be without. Well brought up dogs will always find a perfect new home.
