This may be a tricky one to answer but I've got every confidence in you lot for a reply::bigsmile:.
Our first van a Frankia Atlantis is sorned outside the house. It's a long saga ;we had a cracked windscreen and we had 3 goes with autoglass to get a new windscreen but as it is 1990 model, all 3 screens split. The pull down bed pulled down as there was some rot in the side wall. A repair specialist could not give us a price as he said it needed an enthusiast to do it in their spare time as his labour costs could be extensive for us.
What to do?
The van still has working heater, water, bench loo, fridge/ freezer, hob, awning, awning light, new led lights, new fiamma pump, extractor fan and towbar. The cupboards are in real wood as are the table and dinette table.

I have to admit because of my mother's daughters and sister's illnesses this year, it has gone to the bottom of our to do list.

Should we strip out the parts and sell on ebay, scrap the rest/ the lot? It is on our land so will this new sorn/tax/insurance rule affect us?
It would be such a relief to have this solved. Any advice will be helpful.thank you,
Lucille

Hi Lucille, from what i can understand with the proposed sorn/tax issue, if it is taxed then it must also be insured...even if it is off the road and not in use.

if it aint taxed, is off the highway and sorn has been declared then it doesnt need tax, test or insurance.

as for the scrapage.....if any new parts are interchangable then change them to your current van....water pump etc.

led lighting will probably be a straight swap and if you already have led lights in the current van, then buy a set of halogen bulbs, swap with leds from the old van and keep the leds as spares then dump the rest in the worlds dustbin...ebay.

you'll get sod all selling to a breakers yard.

Thanks everyone and Pappa John for the replies. I've never sold anything on ebay ( probably the only person in the UK who hasn't! :roflmto:) so that should be interesting.

If you use ebay use a classified add with a phone number the add lasts weeks and you will not pay ebay only for the add it cost me about 30 pounds for the months add when I sold my car on there this is cheaper than an auction you could put open to offers instead of a price

Stick it on ebay cheap, so someone will buy for parts for a self build or repair it.

Strip the parts and sell on ebay for self builds etc

Go onto a self build site, and advertise it as a donor vehicle.

You can send the tax disc in

If it is taxed it can be returned for refund..then sorn off road if on private land. No need the for insurance.

The new rules when they come in..no date yet is aimed at cars uninsured on the road being driven.. I.e registered at DVLA but do not match the motor insurance register.... So if it is on private land you can do a SORN declaration

You chaps are fooling with me today, I saw the headline "How to get rid of a lovel old lady", and as the Senior Partner is just that, I thought this might be a guide to D-I-Y undertaking.

So, if anyone else is in a hole doing just that, don't stop digging...

Try your Local paper first, there might be a handy man just waiting for something like that as a project. While in Cardiff last year I met up with a young couple from mid Wales who had bought a D Reg, worked on it over the winter. The before photos were "Wreckers Yard" the m/h I was looking at infront of me was immaculate!
You never know it might be worth a try.
