Just shows how indestructable those Dacotas are.
Sitting at the end of a runway with the engines reving there nuts off,the whole thing shaking itself to pieces, then the brakes are released and you start to think what the hell am I doing in here.Looks almost as good without wings though.
Thanks for the post and the memories Jim.:thumb:

While working in RSA I flew in one daily to a remote diamond mine in Lesotho .. used to land on a strip of dirt that looked far too short .. :Eeek: a real workhorse.

Great Motorhome, I'd love it, what memories it would bring back. I jumped out of a DC3 plenty of times at Zephyr Hills in Florida, holds a lot of jumpers and with one small door; exits were fast and often at a run::bigsmile:

I saw that thing in real life in 1990, don't know if was in use or not, it was parked up in someones back yard in Brisbane. I didn't stop as I was on my way thro to Cairns to work on the Casino there.

There's another one wings and all, used to be a crop duster, someone's turned it into a roadside Cafe just off highway 1 in the North Island of NZ.

But what airbus part of the name, I don't think you would enjoy jumping out of one of those. I have only flown in a DC3 (Dakota) once, Liverpool to Amsterdam to join a ship, I could not understand why we were given a blanket before we took off, found out after about 1000"

I think it was a DC3-C. It crashed and turned turtle (during takeoff) in 1990 full of jumpers, but everyone survived. When it flew, it used to get to 13,000 feet in about 10 minutes or so, then we got out, no time to get cold:Smile:

Wish my Dakota was like that, never mind, it does a great job as it is.
Cheers, Dave:thumb:
