Shower thermostat (1 Viewer)

Just had a few days on a minimum facility site, though with EHU.
My shower, like most MH showers I have experienced requires very accurate setting of the mixer if not wishing to freeze or scald.
I wonder whether an ordinary domestic shower thermostat would work if installed somewhere in the pipes. Has anyone tried this with something like this in a MH?

You could be right, however the water pressure in a house can be pretty variable, depending on what floor you're on and whether it is running on mains or a header tank, so they must be able to cope with a wide range.
Has anyone actually tried it ??

honestly cant say i've ever heard of anyone trying.

average uk pressure is 3 to 4bar...42 to 56psi.

your pump will most likely be a max of 1bar (14psi) with taps closed.

thermostatic mixer valve suitable for low pressure (gravity feed ) should work fine :thumb:

Claims to work down to 0.2bar, I might think about splashing out the £54 for it. Fitting should not be a major problem as it would be fitted in the supply to the shower which would keep the existing mixer tap with both sides of the tap would be connected to the single mixed output thus theoretically giving an even warm temperature regardless of the position of the tap :Cool:

only problem with these tri valves is you preset temp. and once set everybody will have the same temp. shower........... lots of cheap thermo valves on the market screwfix e-bay etc

For what its worth we tried to get one fitted to our 5'er in manufacture and went through all the thoughts and routes you have - spoke to a number of plumbers and a number of caravan specialist as well as contacting different tap manufacturers - every one came up with the same answer - no chance - tried the Americans to see if they could offer any thing and was told no - then an importer I think put it quite well and that was - if it was possible the Yanks would have it as standard on most rigs - soooo I guess its fair to say the answer is No - unless of course you know better - in which case let me know and I will have one too

I have worked for triton showers for 22 year and can see no reason for a thermostatic valve not to work. shower head would still need to be very restricted as standard on motorhomes as on the water flow available normal head would probably just dribble out though

Well there you go - get it set up so it work on a caravans and motorhomes and you may well be set up for life- I for one would be delighted to have one

Looks like someone has the idea already. I have enquired whether this will work at the low pressures from caravan pumps and when I know I will post it here.

I suspect the answer is in description This is the main shower tap used in static holiday homes. It has previously been fitted by Cosalt, Atlas, A.B.I, Delta, Willerby, etc which means although they are caravans they will be fully plumbed into mains and sewerage etc. be interested to know what they come back with though

doing a bit of thinking and checking spec./ requirement for mixers and on this, one only possible problem seems to arise. that is max. temp of hot water ..........65 degrees seems the norm and I'm pretty sure truma etc heat water to around 75 which could damage wax capsule in valve .

I have had an email regarding the required operating pressure and it needs a minimum of 0.5bar (ie around a 16ft head) so I don't think that one is suitable. I will continue to think about the problem, it cannot be insoluble.

Regarding previous post Truma combi boiler claims 60C on its highest temperature. It can also do 40C which is much better for a shower, but only with the space heating off.

Would work if you have a Shurflo pump.. it has an output of 45psi ( 3.1bar )
