Slideouts info please (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone not very good on computer so please bear with me. What is the correct procedure for putting slideouts out, I have been told differant ways by peaple. I park up sides out then dump air then leval on jacks. And when ready to go build air store jacks then pull sides in. Also Is it ok to leave sides out on windy days. My RV is a Winnebago journey 34. Have only owned it for 5 months so be prepared for more questions and look forward to meeting some of you sometime. :thumb:

As far as I am aware, all bar 1 of the RV manufacturers recomend the same procedure.
1. dump the air
2. level with the jacks
3. Slidout out.

For some reason, Monaco say slide out THEN level. Never understood why?

I concur with this because:

1. It was the recommended procedure by the manufacturer
2. It makes sense, other methods do not.

Of course the funster I saw who thought it was okay to move his RV from one pitch to another at peterborough Show a few years back must have a different manual oh:

I have not got air,, so that dont count..

But my manual say`s level up before putting slide out, out,.. so as not to twist distort mechanism..

Retracting slide out,, before coming off the Hydraulic Jacks..

Then the reverse when you leave.

Was told by the supplier of my RVs that the vehicle chassis must be straight and level for the slides to work properly and reduce wear and strain on the slide system.:thumb:

Same here, level and stabilise, then slide out. Slide in, jacks up.

Agree with the others------body/chassis should not be twisted when putting slide in/out.
Also --if you have a slide topper --make sure it's not covered in ice/ frozen snow when you put slide in-----------------------if no topper-- make sure top of slide is clear of leaves, snow etc.
Also -make sure a cupboard door has not opened ----to be ripped of by opening slide:Blush:oh:

Can I add a couple bits for the first timers that may read these posts.

You have to put the foot brake on otherwise the slideout will not work.

Follow manufactures instructions..... I have left my slide out in very windy conditions much like Brian did when we were side by side at Lincoln. Good point about snow or ice on the topper. and the cupboards.... I think Rick will comment on damage to his slide done by previous owner that had not stowed away various items:Sad:

I do not have air on the rear of the RV, but do not dump as it is an after fit and I have to use ramps as no jacks on the 24' Winnibago B class.. but I do use a set of slide out jacks I imported from the USA to give a bit of support to the slide out runners. I know you can get some that collapse if the jacks fail to save the slide out.. Mine just finger tight to stop any movement.

But mainly wanted to remind new users of the foot brake issue.

The Manual on my 2005 Holiday Rambler Ambassador states, have airbags fully inflated before putting slides in or out. This means, unless I am confused:

When arriving:
1. Pull into parking spot.
2. Put slides out
3. Dump airbags
4. Level MH using jacks.

When leaving:
1. Start engine and let airbags fully inflate.
2. Raise jacks.
3. Put slides in.

on my RV the slide wont work if the jacks aren't down....it uses the same master switch, as i found to my embarrassment earlier this year :Blush:

as others have said, if the RV body has any twist then the slide will jam.

It would be prudent to check your owners manual, this is the correct sequence for a Monaco .. note that the jacks are up for both extending and retracting


To Extend or Retract Slide Rooms:
Turn on interior house power.
Ensure the driver’s seat is in the forward
position. The driver’s seat automatically
moves forward as the slide-out is
engaged.

Close all interior doors and cabinets.
(Exception: Some doors may require to
be open for slide room to operate.)
Clean the floor of dirt or grit that could
result in damage during operation.
Open a window or vent to equalize
pressure during slide operation.
Confirm there is enough clearance
inside/outside the motorhome for the
room to extend/retract.

Retract hydraulic jacks (if equipped).
Start the engine. Press Travel Mode on
air level control panel. Allow time for
the air suspension to support the chassis.
Turn off the engine. Ensure park brake is
applied prior to extending the slide room.
Confirm the house batteries are fully
charged.
Ensure all people, pets and objects are
clear of the slide room path.
The switches for the slide rooms are
located on the overhead compartment
above the co-pilot seat and in the
hallway. Press and hold the slide room
switch to the desired (IN or OUT)
position.

Release the switch anytime to stop
room movement. The drive motor will
not automatically stop; the switch must
be released. A change in motor sound
indicates full extension/retraction.

Thanks for the replys guys really interesting lnowing what others think. I actually also rung a Winnebago dealer today also and he said the way i was doing it was ok as the Winnebago body does not flex a lot due to the way it is built. I can see it being ok after you have levalled as the RV is then straight so still a bit confused. So am hopeing everything will be ok. If the sides fall off I will let you know as I will need to know how to put them back on then.
