I have malewarebytes and have updated to AVG 2011 free but AVG is giving me problems opening ever ordinary site and now locking up my laptop.

If I have Malewarebytes do I need AVG as well?

John, we've just update our AVG and I did something and ended up with a trail of the payed for version, totally screwed the PC up, slow as a slow thing, stopping etc. Went to uninstal and it gave the option to downgrade to AVG free and back to relative normality now, just a thought as I thought I was updating the free AVG so at a guess I didn't read something correctly, possible one of those bloomin double negative tick boxes:Doh:

I was becoming fed up with AWG it seemed to be hogging lots of memory causin g slow loading etc.

Spoke to a pal with his own computer repair business he recommended the free version of Avira which he installs on customers machines. So far so good apart from the irritating little window that sometimes asks if I want to upgrade to the full version, no problems with it slowing up my laptop.

Admittedly, the upgrade to AVG2011 has not been quite as simple as their offerings in the past, but if you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, then it goes smoothly.

Installed on 2 PC's and 1 laptop here - very happy

How much crap have they loaded on to it this time ?

Very happy with free 9 ATM, with the predictive junk turned off.

No cr@p - all works well.

Like so many of these programs, you have to know what to do in the prefs files to get it to work for you

Agree wholeheartedly with wivvy's dad. It does need a bit more concentration than the previous versions, but works well when installed properly and the preferences have been tweaked to suit your setup.
I normally let AVG carry out a complete system scan after installation. (This can take ages so let it get on with it while you're doing something else!) I then set it to update itself and "smart scan" the system overnight. I think it normally scans files, e-mails & web pages on opening and saving anyway. Not had any problems so far with AVG 2011.

We've switched to Avast. Prefer it - and it's free.

I have ran AVG for years and have been very happy with it. This latest version is the pits, both SWMBO and I have new lappies mine is very fast and it slowed them down dramatically. I have now binned it and gone gone onto Windows security essentials. :thumb:

I agree with IVYS

My desktop crashed big time, I have now installed Avast and so far quite impressed.
