Anyone taken a Staffie to France yet? (1 Viewer)

Since we lost our last dog, who we took all over France. We have perhaps foolishly rescued a 'Staffie'. I say foolishly because we originally only tried motorhoming to be able to take our dog with us. Loved it obviousley.

Earlier this year we took her to the vet to begin the 'pet passport' procedure. His reaction was that we would be wasting our money as Staffies are not allowed in France. So we went to France without her. Definately not as much fun. Not for us and not for her.

After our return I have been scouring the interweb and I may have some contradictory answers.

(a) Staffies are not on the French Cat.1 or Cat.2 list. So no problems, pet passport here we come.
(b) Only KC registered Staffies are not on the list (so without papers - does anyone know?).
(c) Staffies are not allowed and will be shot on sight.

I am of the view that Staffies are allowed because they are not on the list. Although some campsites are unsure and will refused you access. No matter to us we rarely use sites, and when we do it is early and late in the season when they are pleased of any business they can get. Dare I risk it?

Has anyone got any experience of this?

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Dont realy know about Staffies,even though I used to own one.
What I do know is there are some very savage looking dogs in France,it seams to be the in thing especialy in the south to have macho looking dogs,even to the point of ear croping,which I may add,I do not agree with.
Last time I was down there just over a year ago,I saw pit bulls,and various crosses of weird dogs,just to make them look more macho,if I were you I would take specialist advice.
Then again...you probably know the French attitude to rules!!!.

Bruno was attacked on our last night in France 4 years ago (it was a locals dog being walked on the campsite at midnight)

I am a dog lover but dubious about staffies but family guy on here got a gem of one.

My observation with Great Dane

France :- Fine
Spain :- Apprehensive but accepted
Italy:- Horrid and want non local dogs muzzled
Belgium :- Crazy about Dogs
Switzerland :- Stuffy and not wanted
Austria :- Fine
Germany :- Fine

Just my observation with my rather large fella (hope it helps)

The problem is that dog behaviour cannot be categorised based on breed alone. We have a 38KG staffie boxer cross who is a real gentleman, most of the time. Our daughter has two staffies, a male pure bred but not KC reg and a staffie jack russle cross bitch. On a recent walk they met another couple of dogs, George rolled on his back for a tummy tickle while Missy set to with the other staffie bitch. Result.........a large vet bill And a staffie bitch with a patchwork finish!

I've been told that we would not be able to take our boxer staffie cross to France as both breeds are on their banned lists, fair enough, I don't particularly want to go to France anyway, its full of foreigners who eat garlic.

Strange to relate but our previous pet was a mastiff/boxer and we had no problems at all.
