Oh for the love of God why did I convince Debs that Buying a Kipor Generator would be a good idea:Doh:. In my defence it was £900.00 for an IG6000 which I am under the impression would power a small town.

I am sure you can see where this is going!

Well it would if the thing would work! well the engine runs but it does not produce any electric.

we brought it (or rather I did) 12 months 8 days ago because our departure on our travel was running some months late it went into storage when it was delivered. I took it out about a month ago gave it a run and checked that it was producing electric all good.

So long term test:-
Day 1 Ran for 5 hours All ok
Day 2 Ran for 5 hours All ok
Day 3 Ran for 10 mins Lost electric

Rang the supplier, they gave me number for engineer. Spoke the very nice man who talked me through what could be wrong. Its the Inverter card thats gone down.

Ok, I know its out of warranty so I'll just buy the new bit job done. Whats the price of that then I ask. £450.00 ish plus delivery to Portugal £39.00:Doh:

After a lot of searching online it seems that the Inverter Card is a common problem with the kipor

So the moral of the story is yes you can by a kipor more cheaply than a Honda
but in my opinion you would be mad too!:winky:

but please bear in mind, IF the Honda inverter goes down (nothings infallible) the replacement cost will be double that of the kippor :roflmto:

12 months 8 days, the designer chappy must be top flight.

900 quid was cheap and I have to say 450 is also cheap, you price a 6000W inverter.

Sorry I can't come up with anything positive.

I could in the UK, I would say that the small claims court would definitely say that such a piece of kit should last a lot longer than 12 months 8 days of continuous use. The manufacturers warranty is NOT absolute.

Why oh why are these inverter boards so expensive,if this is the true cost then the engine and generator side of Kipor must be worth absolute peanuts.

Having just had dealings with the carb. on one, the above statement is probably near to the mark.

My Kipor was so good some bar stew ard stole it. I had it 4 years and never missed a beat.

Only thing I had to be precise with was oil level as had cut out on it when underfilled.

If I had any spare ca$h be out the like a shot to replace it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That board cost more than my complete genny:Doh::RollEyes:

Have you tested the 12v output ?

You should still be able to use it as it is tapped off the genny output before the inverter board.. connect it straight to batteries for charging .. and powering 12v kit
won't be as good at charging as the on board charger, but would keep you going ..

Be aware
Whle manufacturers would LOVE you to accept what they say, get busy talking to a lawyer who knows EU law.
I have just fallen foul of this ( by accident and if the chap had just asked I would have sorted out the issue anyway !! ).. Two years nowadays .. and that is 'de law' under EU consumer rights ( so I am told by my little man with a funny wig on ! )
Manufacturers/shops etc will insist it is 12 months but..........................

I had a problem with my kipor generator and contacted R.E.B Small Plant Repairs (www.smallplantrepairs.co.uk) and the advice they gave me enabled me to fix the gennie. They specialise in Kipor generators.

Ian

Hi Ian

Already spoke to them, very helpful. They gave me the number for their engineer. They don't hold the part but gave me the number for the only company in the uk who has the part.

I am just looking at the paperwork that came with the Generator its says
" Kipor have 12 months (90 Day Commercial/Business use) warranty"

If over warranty they will repair but there will be a charge for parts & Labour

Hi Ant, if you have no luck under the warranty :winky: take the part to a electronics repair place - small TV repair place or something and let them have a look :thumb: My mate does this sort of thing and says you can get it tested to see what has gone, then get the bits on the circuit board fixed. He had a quick look at the picture and reckons the bits to change will be pennies rather than hundreds :thumb: He did a truma hot water heater circuit board in one of my vans in about 20 mins replacing several bits that he thought could be the problem rather than testing everything :thumb: The local caravan spares place wanted above £100 for a new board :Eeek: but when I rang Truma they only wanted around £60 for the part :winky: It only cost me a coffee :ROFLMAO::thumb:

Many thanks Terry will do that. There is a place in Argenil that looks like they may be able to test.

Your main problem will be finding someone who can be bothered to do it for you :Eeek::ROFLMAO:My mate simply looked at my board and said it will be that, that or one of them :ROFLMAO:Took out his soldering iron and replaced 5 items :ROFLMAO: saying it was too much bother to find out which was faulty so replaced the lot :ROFLMAO:
