Might be worth asking Dometic for an opinion?

That's a very good idea as I'm certain that most window companies don't want their respective windows to warp. That said, it seems to be a common problem on the Globecar Summit range.

There may only be three or four Summit 600s and one Summit 640 in the UK at the moment so we don't exactly have much influence as the ownership group is too small.

I've got a suspicion that the European punters in Germany and France are not that bothered by wonky windows and if that's the case then I'm stuffed; saying that I'm not yet part of any Possle group so I may need to join and see what the German folk say.

Does your Campscout have the Elegance Pack windows Liz, i.e. the flushed ones that look a bit like mine. I've not heard of any dodgy window problems with the D-Line models such as yours so I'm wondering which windows are used for the Elegance Pack?

Mel, John, do you guys have the Elegance Pack? Neckender Minxy Girl

We have the Elegance Pack on our 2018 Campscout but I think our frames are different from yours... not sure if the window itself if the same or different.
Anyway, I went out this morning to check out my windows. The only minor distortion is where there is a bit of strain at the closures.

You're an absolute star. I'll use these pics as the quality benchmark in my reply to Globecar; i.e. to highlight the point to Globecar that it has used good windows for the D-Line vans and crappy stuff for the Summit range.

Very many thanks (y)

We have the cheapo sticky-out ones, not your posh flush ones ... you pay a premium for the flush ones which come with the 'posh' white interior. I prefer the flush windows but hubby doesn't and I don't like the white interior etc so hence we got the 'cheapo' version (and it was a good price too!).

However we have had flush windows on previous MHs and vans and never had that issue at all. I suspect that they had a bad batch of the windows so there could be quite a few with the same issue ... I certainly wouldn't accept it, I had to fight for some of my previous Globecar warranty stuff to be sorted (which it was eventually) so I suggest you do the same.

Cheers Mel, I appreciate your thoughts and advice. The windows that come with the Campscout Elegance Pack don't seem to suffer from any form of warping so IMO the Summit H-line window specs must be completely different.

The dealer seems to be very subservient to Globecar so on this occassion the onus lies on me to drive the complaint and not the dealer; that's quite disappointing in all honesty!!

I'll put a letter together and dispatch it with a few thoughts, including the pics which CamperSue kindly posted up.

Thanks again,

Andrew

Hi Andrew, Yes, we have the elegance pack windows. No sign of them warping yet, thank goodness. Liz

Thanks Liz, much appreciated. This is just one more piece of info that I can use to justify my case.

Unless I receive a different outcome from Globecar then it looks as if Globecar is not as good on warranty issues as I first thought.

So Andrew, Globecar are saying that when the temp drops the Windows go back to normal so there is no problem? Is that correct?

You are correct it would be really interesting to see what German owners are saying, of which there will be many.

Yes, that's correct sir. The only problem with their logic from my standpoint is that I'm not sure what temperature will reform the windows. It could be -3C or it could be -45C; they've not stipulated any specifics, lol :D

Ok, this was an interesting exercise.
Discovery no 1 was that the van windows are a bit dusty. I put that down to Saharan rain ?.
Discovery no 2 is that, at certain angles, (I had to work pretty hard to get the photos of it) the back passenger side window is not perfectly flat ... there is some distortion running up the centre. But it doesn’t really look like yours, which is more of a dimple due, perhaps, to lack of room for expansion?
We’ve just opened the van up and we can’t see any distortion from inside (through the dust). Can you on yours?

PS there’s also a Facebook Group you could join ... Forum Globecar & Possl FR. The official one is Possl Camper Forum which is also good. There’s a translate button for each post. All 3 are good and worth joining. The French and German ones are particularly active.

Andrew, we’ve got the Seitz windows on our Dreamer D55, and they are a little wobbly when you look down the side of the van, so it isn’t only a Possl/ Globecar issue. I’m not planning on trying to get anything done until the van goes back for the first hab service, and even then I’m not sure that I’ll raise it as a problem to be rectified.

At the risk of being off-topic how are you getting on with the cool swing-cupboard shower? I rather liked them at the show until I discovered It was a bit too tall for the shower!

I’m 5’7” and quite slim so it’s absolutely fine. Below the swinging wardrobe can be used for storage although obviously you have to move it before showering ?. We’re currently melting in the Jura, and both of us have had cool showers on the van this evening as the campsite showers are too hot with no temperature adjustment ??

When I emailed Globecar (I sent it to Dethleffs the main company) I was just referred back to the UK dealer which wasn't much use. Apparently Globecar will NOT deal with customers direct.

Agreed Mel, I reckon it'll be a hard push for sure.

SMC agreed that the door under our fridge should be changed under warranty when we had our first year inspection at the end of May and they phoned yesterday to say they had it and would courier it to us as we wont be passing there for a while. It wasn't the quickest service but it was such a minor item that it didn't really matter and they are happy to send it out by courier to save me a trip.
I do think the first year inspection is very expensive for what it is but I knew the cost when i bought the van and as you have to have it to keep the warranty its just another cost of owning a van.

Check out this new Possl with the same windows, I noticed it and thought of yours:

It does seem to affect even new ones taken to shows. Also at 6:16.

Why does he keep calling them Persils?????

Looking at the windows it appears that nearly all of them have the large 'dimple' windows which either means they are made that way or they have a large faulty batch.

I was wondering about that - does anyone know a german to ask about it?
I always thought it was 'possel' - but maybe the o with the accent is an 'err', so it's perrsl ?

I could only think of washing powder when he said it though :)

O with the two dots above it, an umlaut, is pronounced "u r"* so "Pirsil" is as good a way as any. Your Possls are Purssils. :)

* Without the space, the Forum software keeps changing it to "your" if I remove it. :)

Spot on DBK it’s the umlaut which changes the pronunciation ...
Also learnt that the main difference between Pössl and Globecar is colour of the wood interior.

The van goes to the dealer on Monday to get the floor fixed but from this last Shetland trip we'll be asking them to look at the 'new' issues:

1. The floor has deteriated further and the main walkway now squeaks and feels spongy under foot.

2. A leak at the bottom of the external toilet cassette hatch.

3. A leak from the shower tray but, thankfully; if I'm on a rearward angle then the water can flow from the tray - then under the loo casset housing, over the floor base and out through the rear left wheel arch. How cool is that!!!!!

4. The walls are not sealed to the shower tray so we can even manage a leak into the main walkway If we want.

5. The large rear overhead locker door has warped and stops one of the other cupboard doors from opening.

6. The overhead locker door in the dining area has warped too. The lock is knackered as well.

7. The Blaupunkt CD player has packed-up.

8. The freeze control valve doesn't work properly.

9. One of the crappy drawer locks has disintegrated.

10. One of the rear bed spotlights has fallen apart.

......and I'll ask them to reassess the wonky windows which from speaking to a German Summit owner in Aug/Sep said they are all like that.

What is your course of action - if they do say... " that's just how they are"... and point to wonky windows on their demo vans?
Everything is built down to a price point, not up to a quality standard.
