Hi, All!
Please, does anyone know where the engine thermostat is on a Fiat Ducato 1900cc engine is? Just bought an Autoroller 2, 1997/98, and no handbook with it. Simple engine, so got to be easy to find. Except we can't!

Follow the top rad hose to where it joins the engine block, should be there. If its working, leave it alone !

Peter, thank you! Wish I'd posted this question in daylight (!), but suspect OH will be out with the torch! The engine just seems to be running cooler than we're used to on diesels; halfway between 0 and the middle, so about a quarter of the way round the temp dial. Having said that it runs OK, but is it over-cooling?

Possibly, diesels should run about 70 - 80 degrees, it maybe stuck open.

At the end of the hose it is normally under a dome shape but you will need a new gasket and top up anti-freeze.

To test, put the thermostat in boiling water and see if it closes.

Too dark to go into the engine but looking at the gauge in the cab, from what you've said it sounds as though it's OK. The thermo gauge in the cab reads from 0 to 130, with the halfway point at 90. On the road the needle goes to halfway or two-thirds of the way between 0 and 90, so ... ????

Thank you so much, Peter. We took Brian on a 120-ish round mile trip today, and the temperature hovered around 75/80, so exactly within the scale you mentioned. One less thing to worry about

T'other way round peter....

suspend it in water (dont let it sit on the pan/kettle bottom)...bring to the boil and see if it starts to OPEN just before it boils.
then let it cool and see if it closes fully.

it should open around 82 to 88 deg
