I am going to Lincoln show tomorrow, I have never gone to a show as part of a group or attended a rally. Having to do everything together as a group sounds awful. Do you have revallie, do you get fined if you turn up late for cakes? Whats the attraction?

The attraction is FUN.

Do as little or as much as you want. But have a laugh. Get some advice. Get help planning the Next Big Trip. Help others. Get legless if you feel like it. Protect your CCs from the dealers.

Hi, If you want to join in or keep yourself to yourself it does not matter.
Motor Home Fun meets are nothing like the Caravan Club where they have flag in the morning. The Funsters are a pretty relaxed bunch. You can get involved as much or as little as you like.

You don't have to do everything as part of a group. You don't have to meet for tea and cakes (more cake for me :winky:) if you do not wish too. You can still do your own thing and choose when to socialise, but it is an opportunity to meet other like minded people and generally "chew the fat". Its just a great way to meet new friends. :thumb:

We get to meet people we have posted with/chatted to and some of those people become very good friends, there is no you have to do this or that, you join in if you want, if you have a problem with your van there is usually someone there that can help. Everyone is made welcome and you know that your stuff is safe (having had chairs dissappear at one show when not in a club section) as there is always someone in the club area

Hi wee fella
You have, as do a lot of people a preconceived idea of what a meet is
Here at Fun we tend to shy away from the word rally, we have meets because thats what they are, you meet folk.
I'm sure you have your favourite local pub :thumb:
Fun is your local on wheels and constantly changing places:thumb:
I guarantee Lincoln will not be your last Funsters meet
Seek me out and I will point out the people to aviod:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

What they all said in spades:thumb:

Forget preconcieved, just go with what you feel, no one will judge you or think ill if you don't want to be the life and sole, plenty for whatever reason will join in in the day but seldom be seen in the evening, and vis versa, some just chill out and chat to whoever happens by.

Our first show last year was Shepton, arrived and duly parked by Roger, and with a little trepidation, wandered up to the nearest gathering and meakly said hello, may as well have known them for years, instantly included in the chat, then some who are you's and introductions and a quick we'd better say hello then have some diner took 2+ hours.

Shepton this year was our fourth this year, we'd go to more but, four letter word, starts W ends K:ROFLMAO: stops it, it's just, well FUN:thumb:

and if memory serves me well you had a problem with your van which you spent some time fixing but along with your own problem you found my problem on a van i had only had 2 days and possibly averted an electrical fire as my water pump (which was well hidden) was faulty and starting to smoke, and that was our first funster meet as well

Very true, Roger (Wildmans) nose spotted a small (thankfully) gas leak, which could have buggered us up right royaly, but Duncan had the bit and with Roger, again, able holding of bits, it was easy fixed:thumb:

This one of the reasons it's FUN:thumb:

I held the exact same views as the OP.

Have been going to the motorhome shows for years and years and would never have thought I would ever join a "club" or "group."

Then one fateful day, as I wandered from the general camping area to the show, I passed by the Funsters' area and dropped in to see what it was all about...

...it now seems as though I have never left!!!

I must point out that at a "meet" not all the Funsters drink themselves into stupors and climb Sunshine Mountain at 2am. Many have just as much fun chatting to other Funsters and sharing stories and information etc. I suspect some forum readers might get the impression that out meets are just about boozing but this is not the case.

JJ

ps. The area set aside for the "clubs" is often much nearer to the trade stands than the general camping area. Reason enough to be part of the group imo...

Fun rallies are pretty laid back affairs. Nothing is compulsory, and people do their own thing. If anything is arranged in the shape of coffee, cake, bacon rolls or beer, you will be informed that its happening but its up to you wether you attend or not, no one will come knocking if you don't.

I am often told by new and seasoned funsters who finally attend a meet; that they wish they had attended before as it was MUCH better that they had expected. I see you are not with the funsters at Lincoln, maybe you are in general parking, why not pop over to the Funster area and introduce yourself, I guarantee you'll get a warm welcome and you might get your question as to why answered:thumb:

Well, Nikki and I will be hosting the meet when we eventually get away. Bryan & Suzy are stepping in for us at the moment. :winky:

As Jim says, you are not on the list as far as I can see but feel free to come over and say hello. We will be having coffee and cake or tea & cake or whiskey and cake  what ever takes your fancy. Just make sure you introduce your self and I too will show the people who you should avoid......only because you will have other things to do during the weekend and these people will keep you talking and laughing until Monday.

So to your question? We spent ages being independant in our motorhome, treating it like a caravan, and not being sure why it wasn't working. We then met other motorhome owners who gave us some tips and advice and we took off. We then found fun along with a load of others and attended our first meet, the second ever fun meet (i think) at Newark. We were introduced to others that had known each other and met lots of new people with a really similar outlook on life. The amazing part was that we met many with a completely different outlook on life that were still really decent people with different views. We were captivated by the Sundowners (who were doing there first meet) telling us all about life living in a double decker bus, fascinating story, papasmurf who was just about to start a full timing adventure and so on and so on.

So in answer to your question, Because I like meeting people, if we don't want too we don't have too. There are some that come and I swear they do not come out of there van all weekend,. yet if there happy then so am I. :thumb:

So pop over Saturday about 10-30 but of course only if you want too.::bigsmile:

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We rally most weekends. With various groups and CCC's ( D.A's ) .
Some want you to join in some arnt bothered either way .
But the best thing is, that you just do what you want.
If your friendly and speak , you usually find you get a good response. As the saying goes , you get what you put in.
Often we rally because the meet is somewhere where we haven't been before. This weekend we are going to the sheep fair at Snape and Masham . Its only costing £12 for the 2 nights. So for a family of 5 , with 2 dogs its an interesting cheap weekend. There will be a marquee with heating for the evenings with an Australian theme on Saturday. Plenty things organised for the kids too.
Though we have been on some rallies and spent the evenings in , watching a film with a nice bottle of wine , whilst the kids have socialised .
Though not very often.
We have only ever been to 2 rallies with MHF one was at Misterton , nice place , good local pub . We had a great time , met lots of nice people and didn't feel under any pressure to sit outside drinking till very late at night , though we did:ROFLMAO::Blush:
Then there was the meal at a golf club over Humberside way. Cant for the life of me remember its name now:Doh:
That was very good too, though we didn't mingle as much as we could have done there , but it was our first one , and we were a bit shy:winky:
The next time there is a rally or meet over our way , we shall definitely be putting our names down.

Hope everyone has a good weekend at Lincoln this weekend , and dont be scared at introducing your selfs to the Funsters. Look out for all the fun flags flying .
We put ours up when ever we go out now , no matter which group or club we go with:thumb:

We was in the same boat as yourself, Thought we would find it hard with small children and wife being shy etc.. Our first meet was Shepton this year with Funsters and i have to say i felt at home apart from Roger and Alan drinking my JD and Banana Yumyum and JJ entertaining my kids all was good then the evening in the tent was for me a mess after 3/4 of a bottle of JD i was ready for bed....

You do what you want and when you want get involved or don't its up to you but you wont meet a nicer bunch of people trust me....

Plenty of advice free of charge floating about and the cakes are out of this world...

Like others have said, we never cared much for the Rally scene, then found FUN what a great bunch of friendly helpful people, none of this my van is better than your business everyone just there to relax and enjoy themselves, no matter if you have a Large RV or a small self build, makes no difference, all ages younger people with children, retired people enjoying life and single people all join in together or not as you choose. Give it a try I bet your first Fun meet would not be your last.

Maureen and I have only been on a couple of rallys, a few with the CC in which we felt a little out of it because we have an older M/H. Once with another M/H site which wasn't all that well organised or catered for newbies to their rallys, got very peed off when we were religated to the back of the joint bbq! and basically ignored by the rest of the "free site!" It all seemed to be like a school gang nah nah nah nanah you can't be in my gang!

BUT! looking at these posts, perhaps, if you chaps decide to have one around the West Country in the future, Yeh! we'll come along and meet you all, you seem to be a fairly sane bunch, with just, , well, more than a touch of madness!

Our kind of people, maybe. (don't like those smiley thingees)

I tend to motorhome mostly on my own and used to go to the shows and stay in the general areas. Got bored to bits with my own company, and spoke to few people.

I then decided to join in with a Fun meet, (with a great deal of trepidation I might add) even though I dislike "rallies" with a passion.

Well

I could not have been made to feel more welcome, and was so relieved to find that "rally" was not the right word or concept. Fun meets are gatherings of singles, couples and families , but no one loses their independence or identity.

But boy are they FUN

As with most things, you get out what you put in, but nothing is set in stone and there are no flag pole ceremonies.

Best thing I ever did. What a great mix of people, and I defy anyone to resist joining in with the fun we all have.

All joking aside, I wasn't sure if I wanted to join in with a bunch of strangers. However, I went to the Carmarthen meet in April and met some of the best people going. Great conversation and humour, some were even good at bike racing, excellent hospitality from the boss (bacon butties), some even showed me around their vans and I also met a couple who live less than 5 miles from me. So all in all I was pleasantly suprised at what I'd found - now they can't get rid of me!

Silly Billy ! It's often the people with the "well used" MHs that are the real motorhomers. As opposed to the mobile gin palace owners who buy a new one every year and PX it not run in.

Why not give us West Country target for a meet next year? We did Breen Sands once, that was good, does that qualify as West Country ? Boggy site but it was sunny and a great area for cycling.

Do you know anywhere better ?

Just after writing this, I found these pictures. Does they not show perfectly "it's not what you've got but what you do with it" ?
