Going to PenelopePitstop's p#ss up oops sorry Spanish Job meet:thumb:, now I've driven on French roads before is there much or any different between Spanish or French roads, apart langauge, do they have aires the same as the French, can you stop in big laybys, say with lorries.:thumb:we free park in the UK and feel safe is it the same in Spain, you hear so many stories about it not being safe.

Roads not much different to france and there are aires.Not as many as france and would not recommend staying near large towns etc.
Just use your gut instinct.

mmmmm Id be careful about pulling into some lorry park laybys - the ladies of the night/day might think they have a new customer with all the comforts of home.

Services are spaced the same as on french and english motorways. On the N roads you will find plenty of roadside cafes with parking. All the major roads are fine to drive on.
Spain is not big on Aires but there are a few dotted about
You cannot park up on a garage/services area and use your own vans facilities or technically overnight , unless its a motorway services but once again no gas to be turned on. Wildcamping used to be permitted just about anywhere (except within a mile of a petrol station) but a lot of areas are clamping down on it now. A lot of towns have big supermarket carparks on the edge of town and quite a few motorhomes use them for an overnight stopover,

can't add much to what chatter says..

we used the N road truck stop cafe's .. a good plan is to go into the bar/cafe, buy a meal or a coffee then speak to the owner and ask if it's ok to stay overnight .. they usually have a night watchmen .. buying him a beer will make him your friend for life ..

never had a problem doing this and met some interesting truckers and as already mentioned.. ladies of the night ..

just remembered, one cafe we went into had porn playing on a big screen TV

Spain seems to have an excess of roads and little traffic on the whole. Some inner lanes are well rippled. BUT the big problem we had was wind, great big wind. Not so bad in a MH but we gave up one day on the bike.

Visually exciting, time and time again you climb over a mountain then see a massive flat plain. Nothing to stop the winds.

Olives, we drove for best part of 100 miles and saw nothing but olive groves, god knows how they picked them all. On the return we were 50 miles across, same olive groves. They must have an area half the size of Wales just growing olives.

Most reported crime seems to be on the popular eastern routes. We'll probably go for a one stop strategy at the nice site posted in the main thread at Caceres. A lot depends on weather.

PS I see you list classical music. There is a good campsite in Aranjuez, pretty impressive royal palace and park. But this would mean routing via Madrid.

Olives are easy Brian, like in the advert you do shake them from the tree, but you use a tractor with an implement attached which vibrates the tree trunk and then the olives fall into the big net that is spread around the tree. You do the same with the almonds as well

You mean it's not some old men waiting for them to fall and leaping to catch them ?
