my 2015 Ducato based A class Rapido is showing an external temperature between 30 and 40 deg C. Unfortunately I am driving through the midlands so it is probably about half of that. Does anyone have any experience of fixing that? I assume that the sensor is in the external mirror so advice on how to get at it would be helpful

In an A Class it's more lightly to be behind the front bumper.
Thanks, I read elsewhere on this forum about the mirror, not sure what I’m looking for! One thing I have noticed is that it goes down a bit when I’m stopped in traffic or traffic lights. Also I don’t really have a front bumper! ( but I know what you mean)

Getting better month by month.
If you do have the wing mirror type. It looks like this on the underside of the drivers / RHS mirror

On the Rapido it is under the left front wing attached to the bumper support

Follow the wires back and find if it has a plug. Most don't, it's only 2 wires to cut and splice.

I’ve just replaced mine with one of these, £9.99 as opposed to £30 to £40 for the Fiat one.
I just cut the old one off and replaced it with this, joined with a wire connector and taped up.
It’s working perfectly. Don’t forget to disconnect the negative lead from the battery whilst changing it.
Theres no point in replacing the wiring back to where it plugs in.

Because it is a thermistor, you really do need to make sure the connections are nice and tight and insulated

If under the van it needs to be waterproof. I use crips and slide heatshrink up the wire before joining and then slide the shrink over the join and heat it up. Has the benefit of supporting the joint

Crimps lol fingers faster than the keyboard or too big for phone screen.

What you don't want to do ideally is to solder the joint. Vibration and the copper being brittle will cause fractures later.

Are you sure that's not the sensor for the climate control?
It’s funny you should say that, it clearly is the outside temperature sensor because it’s corrected our dashboard readout which was giving wild readings like +40’s and +70’s then it just died and gave three lines.
But, we have automatic climate control and it’s never really being as good as I thought it should be, well, it’s been crap.
It could be really cold and we couldn’t get decent heat out of it, or really hot and the air con was poor.
Now, it appears to be really good, the air con is nice and cooling, though not sure about heating just yet.
We’ve been disappointed with the climate control since buying it in 2015 but the temperature reading on the dash only appears to have gone wrong in the last year or so, maybe it was faulty before.
There is also a thread and YouTube video regarding the outside temperature sensor having an affect on the DPF regeneration cycle.
