In very simple terms you have a total of 190 amps divided by two =95 amps and that is how the charger will see it
It will try to charge i big 95 amp battery, resulting in the over charge of the 80 and undercharge of the 110
even charged seperatly when hooked up back together th performance will be dragged down by the 80 amp
Rule of thumb both battery's are better suited if both same amps, if at all possible match bettery's ie same make, same amps, same purchase date dont mix old and new

If you can get to or know a friend that is going to the Shepton Mallet Meet in 3 weeks, JJ is organizing a good deal on new batteries.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: go ask a auto electrican,, he will roll up to the other post,,, i took some advice simlar as other post hmmmmmmm:ROFLMAO: no but whent to one who has 36 years in the trade, then spoke to his son 10 years with dad and other company they then suggested a [intelegent charger].we ran it up on an assortment of batts linked 2x80 1x150 2x110 amp/hr guess what all worked perfectly for 2 months :RollEyes::RollEyes: ,,, if u use this system it reads how much each battery has in it then charges it to 13.5 volts its true highest value. i have now got in my motor home 2x85 and 2x110 amp/hr batts all running fine,,we have got a meter that checks them some thing stupid like every 20 secs,, cheap batt might not last as long but i got mine for ÂŁ70.00 with 4 years garantee. Lots of people it wont work but i does,, they are just out of sink with new tecno,, any doubts just send me a message ok:thumb::thumb:

I think your auto electrician is out of sink ...

there is no charger in the world that can look at a mixed bank of batteries and determine the size and control the charge rate for each .. it's just not possible

as already stated by GEO .. for best performance and life the batteries MUST be the same size, age and make ..

however, many do use mixed sizes without a problem but they will not be working to maximum performance..

I think my nurse said something about intelligent chargers
Pity you cant get intelligent posters:Smile:
The performance is still governed by the weakest battery in any given system the charger will fully charge what ever it sees
in your case a large 97.5 a amp hrs battery. find another electrician with more experiance

He now lectures VOSA area testers at Marsham street london [ ring a bell to you GEO ??? ] sorry breeks thats the place that governs test sites ,,,and mod elec engineers oh yes also REME elec engineers,, as you see as arthur said i only still learning ??? he suggested you look it up on the web mate tons of info there,,, if you want i will send you a pic of it all running as im off to them/h tommo,, i dont intend to post any more ansers to this site because no point ,,two people seem to know it all jugeing fro the past posts they have made,, sorry :thumb:

Niggle The tone of your reply is surprising and unwarrented. The people giving the advice do so from personal experience and observation. whilst a number of batteries of different sizes will run and charge together, they effectively form a chain that is only as strong as its weakest link. an intelligent charger on each battery may well do what you describe, however no charger yet can see two batteries in parallel as anything but one battery. sorry the advice you we given is being interpreted incorrectly, maybe the wrong question was asked in the first place. One duff battery in a bank of three will destroy the other two as well. That is a fact. Individual intelligent chargers for each battery would overcome that. I agree.
If you are purely counting qualifications then mine is an HNC in electrical/elecronic engineering.

Not getting involved in the debate however we looking for a second battery we were advised yesterday by our auto electrician to have both the same size, and should have bought 2 together. Looks like its back to WRENBURY for us...:roflmto: :roflmto: what a cracking meet up it was...:winky:

the original question was is it possible to mix different size of battery. the answer it would appear is yes, but not using standard technology. the system Niggle mentioned requires a complete rewire, batteries are not connected in parallel but individually connected to seperate terminals of a special smart charger. each battery receives the charge it needs independantly whilst the load is spread across all of the batteries. So those who suggested it was not possible, including myself were not aware of this technicological breakthrough. at around ÂŁ150 plus fitting it seems a reasonable price for a highly specialised unit. I'd love to have the concession to sell them in the UK.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: i feel a polite sorry might be on its way to me eh:Eeek::Eeek:

As an engineer I was trained to deal with facts, not rhetoric..

There are intelligent multi bank chargers that can charge 2, 3 and 4 batteries individually, basically using individual charger circuits .. but none that I am aware of that can control the discharge or each battery and shed the load depending on the size of each battery

can you please provide a link to the product you say can do this . ?
