Your expert help needed and looking on you knowledgeable lot.
Airbag warning light problem it started with just airbag light and had AA diagnostics unable to read, advised to get Auto electrician or main dealer. Got Auto electrician and he tried to read the SRS airbag module the child seatbelt warning light and the seat belt warning light came on (come to think of it no audible sounds) he diagnosed a new airbag module which I sourced and arranged auto elec guy to come and fit and do a new diagnostic.
He temporary connected the module and was able to communicate and only the airbag warning light and see handbook warning came on. He did checks and found no errors except can line error I think he said but unable to get the airbag light to go off. He disconnected the temporary new module in case the fault caused another module failure and said I needed to decide next cause of action.
He stated that the diagnostic stated no faults at all or error codes for airbag system so the system is working and it is a canbus error. This is my recollection and I may have misinterpreted something or missed something. He said it may be a simple reset to make the light go out.
So he has left the decision to me whether to get him and a colleague to fault diagnose and it could take? Or take it to main dealer and it could take?
So what are your thoughts guys is it a reset of the light by doing? Or is it? TIA

Steve the technician said if there was an issue with wiring or plugs it would show as a fault and its showing no faults

Depends on the fault reader he has not all non Fiat readers will read all faults the main dealer will have the right reader.

I believe you need the FIAT computer to pair the new module. I would of recommended having the original paired module repaired by a specialist if you had asked first

He said he had the right kit and seemed the case when he connected the new module, it may well end up main dealer just seeing if anything else suggested

Tried contacting a repair place and as the airbags had not been deployed then needed new or refurbished. Sourced new and they advised plug and play and remove error codes (not sure if technician did this) but he said light should go out as no errors shown.

10 to 1 its the wire under the seats, common problem, just get under the seats and find the connecters and give them a good clean.

i have a renault van that will go hundreds of miles with it off then it will come on for no reason , so just give the wire under the seat a wiggle and it goes off for another 100 or so miles.

wire under seats and clock spring in the steering wheel are very common faults. Before resorting to the main dealer you could try removing the battery earth lead and solar panel supply. plug module back in and wait 20 minutes before reconnecting the battery.

dangerous advice, as wiggling a damaged wire and shorting it to earth could trigger the airbags to deploy

In your opinion would the wires or spring show as error on diagnostic machine? No confidence working on electrics hence getting Auto electrician out he showed me the diagnostic machine at times and he had loads of connections with different numbers the machine said to connect so I think it was good enough.

X mechanic and the only thing that have major headaches for airbag warning was slip ring under steering column. But saying that not into the swivel seats or child restraints as truck mechanic. But I think the 1st check would be slip ring as it can cause intermittent fault which sometimes diagnostic will not pick up.

as above, they do go intermittent and it can vary as to how the steering wheel is turned

the issue with seat swivels is that you can get a couple of different faults. the wires snag and pull the connecting plug apart giving a bad connection. or the wires get caught and cut part through in a few places or if lucky a clean cut. can be an absolute pain to fix without removing the seat

Was it a pure Airbag Fault?. I had an SRS Fault show after I had reason to remove the passenger seat, which needed to disconnect wires. Simple process of getting the Diagnostic onto the Vehicle and cancelling the fault, Never reappeared. Done it twice now as I had to remove the driver seat to get at a bunch of Relays and fuses! in the seat base. (Sprinter BTW). I used Multiecuscan, on the Ducato and the Punto Linked to the Laptop via USB. To trace and Eliminate a EGR fault. That kept recurring periodically until I replaced the EGR.

Then so can shorting to earth while driving.... Far more dangerous than standing beside the seat and reaching under to wiggle the wires.
