We have been using Muc-Off for a couple of years now, and find it the best product for cleaning the van. We buy ours in a 5 litre bottle from Towsure, we transfer it into a garden spray, the type that you can pump up, ready for use.

Question, to you enlightened ones:ROFLMAO:

How does the muc-off get on with polish, ie does it remove it like the fenwicks or not?

Packed in the fenwicks except when Winne's exceptionaly dirty as it strips the polish off you see, not that there's is much on as we still haven't got a full coat on but it better than nowt and I made the mistake of washing with fenwicks after polish one:Doh:

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.

Is that for real ?:ROFLMAO:
We used Autoglym polish on ours .
It took over 5 hours to wash n polish it but she looks great now.

I'm interested in the previous post too , asking if Muc off and other such shampoos would strip all the polish off , that we spent hours putting on ?
Anyone know

Is muc off pink BTW ? I think we may have used it before on our caravan.

Hi Bev
Yes Muc-Off is pink in colour.

Does it take off polish??
Don't really know the answer to that, we don't polish our motorhome that often. Will be trying Auto Glym Super Resin Polish next time we do, thanks for the recommendation.

If anyone wants to check out any of the above products before risking using them on their pride and joy I unselfishly make the following offer... (Sorry, limited to Funsters only.)

Why not come to Malvern/Shepton/Newark and try them on my Wagon first?

Then I take all the risk if one of the products is harmful in any way... :thumb:

JJ

PS won't solve the "will it take off the polish?" question unless, of course, you put some on in the first place...

Worked for me at Knutsford...kind of....Janine took one look at my dirty van and gave me a quick demo of the dry-cleaning spray she uses. :thumb:

Made the other 95% of the van look so bad I had to clean the rest when I got home

Do the bits that I cleaned stay cleaner for longer, Neil?

It's supposed to leave a silicone layer which repels dirt.

Busters

Guys.. be VERY careful when dealing with Busters
As you may or may not know M & P is part of the same firm and they are still up to their old tricks of failing to deliver and not giving money back
Next door have just fallen foul to the tune of a little over a hundred quid

It is a shame really as Busters is / was a really good firm to deal with and all the folk who work there used to be top notch

These chemicals are re branded degreasers that valeters have been using for decades, know as G101 - a caustic alkali. It should be available from most trade cleaning outlets - you can't miss it, its' flourescent yellow!

You will also find it in shops, used as 'Kitchen Cleaner' - same stuff!

It actually works by eating body fats, so has excellent fly removal properties, kitchen cleaning abilities and so on. Do wear gloves if using for long periods, as you will notice your fingers will shrink...yes it will soak through your skin. Trade stuff needs diluting....it is neat, the more commercialised, the more dilute it is. Don't let it dry on, as it will stain the paint.

Top stuff!

I have used the pink Muc Off on BMW motorcycles before. While it did clean very well I found that that the silver engine/shaft drive housing and front wishbone suspension coating had sufferred. Small white spots appeared in the coating as if the stuff had eaten through. I am unsure if this coating was paint or powder coating. When used on the alloy wheels it may have stripped of any wax/polish as if they were not polished afterwards corrosion would follow. May be I left the stuff on too long, but I don't think so - sprayed on, hosed off.
I still use the stuff, but I use it with caution limiting its application to bare metal and wheels ensuring that it is thoroughly washed off afterwards. I will never trust it on a coated surface again.

Dead flies on the front of the luton are the worst to get off.

My van, I think, is gelcoat (I'm sure someone will put me right). Would this stuff be safe to use?

we bought some stuff at Carmarthen show that was designed for cleaning aircraft bodies in desert environments. It lifts dust and dirt into the product and then just wipes off leaving a coat of polish. I think it's brilliant but really needs some elbow grease for the fly corpses. Just can't remember the name at the moment. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Just remembered and it's called 'Drywash' just spray on leave for 30 seconds wipe off, no water required.

OK, daft question but, muc off, is this used like a normal soap or is it one of these 'waterless' type cleaners you squirt on and wipe off?

G101 would be fine to use, just don't let it dry! Spray on, wait for 30 seconds and rinse off - all the flies will disappear! You can agitate with a brush or sponge whilst you are waiting for it to eat the flies.

You cannot get more effortless!

It is an alkali which will do no harm as long as it doesn't dry on.

The chemicals are Sodium Hydroxide and Sodium Polyphosphate for the chemists and science teachers out there!

For the rest of us 'It has stuff in it that makes flies fall off' :thumb:

That is good enough!
