Hi,

I'm looking for a new laptop and have seen the following spec for £500 inc. vat and delivery.

  • Processor Intel i5-430M(2.26GHz)
  • Operating System English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT)
  • Hard Disk Drive Hard Drive : 500GB Serial ATA (7200RPM)
  • Memory 4096MB (2x2048) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
  • Media Bay Optical Drive Blu-Ray Disc (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM) Drive
  • NoteBook Screen Display : 15.6in High Definition (1366X768) WLED
  • Video Graphics : 512 MB ATI Mobility Radeonâ„¢ HD 545v

It isn't new, but is refurbished and is sold with 12 months warranty from the manufacturer.

Is it a good spec for a good price or is there a better deal out there?

Thanks

Bryan

Hi Terry,

Slower processor...
Slower memory...
Smaller HDD...
No Blu-ray drive...

Granted it has some nice touches:

Multitouch pad
Larger screen
Numeric keypad
3 years warranty
e-sata connection

To be clear, I'm after a powerful machine because it will become my main PC.

So I want at least...

i3 processor
4 gb ram
500gb hdd

15" is big enough as it needs to be portable enough for the motorhome.

Thanks for the reply :winky:

With what this laptop has guessing it is not old spec but why is it being sold so soon then and why did it have to be refurbished ?

For that amount of money I would rather put it into a new system 12 mths warranty is ok but..... anything go wrong and back to the manufacturers it has to go as it was bought used, it could be gone for several weeks etc or even more , me personally I would still worry and prefer to buy new ...more clout then if things go awry IMHO

I should have been clearer - it is being sold by the manufacturer with their own 12 months warranty.

Nothing wrong with a manufacturers refurb. Dell refurb machines even when they have been wrongly speced. Because they have been out of the box, they cant be sold as new, so they check them over and refurb them. Saves the punter a few quid and clears their stock. Go for it Bryan, a 64 bit machine with 4 gig and an i5 should fly!

Thats a really fab spec for the money. The graphics are good too. ATI radion graphics are much better than the cheepo dedicated intergrated graphics you get in many low end lappies. Plus with Win7 it wil be able to see the whole of the 4 gig memory.

I say go for it and with the CPU I think you have a perfect candidate for a desktop replacement in this unit.

You can only see - use - the whole 4 gig with a 64bit system. A 32 bit system only sees - uses - a max of 3.75 gig . As Parkay said it's a great deal :thumb::thumb::thumb:

I'd be very interested if anyone can find another laptop with

4gb ram
500gb hdd
Core i-5 processor
Separate graphics

For around £500

I will NEVER buy a Refurb ever again....

The desktop refurb pc I bought a couple of years ago had a faulty motherboard, which is why it was sent back to the manufacturer in the first place.
Trouble with it was the fault only ever showed up when the crate was being used in earnest - video editing for instance.
A soak test on the manufacturers workbench would never had shown up a fault like that.

So my advice would be to ask very closely what the reason for the refurb was, and has it been solved.

HTH

just hoped it was not a Median like Aldi sell. Cant go wrong with Dell, I am using a Dell vostro 1500 and it's been a great machine. Dell warrantees are bullet proof. if you have not bought it yet, buy it now!!!
