looking for a 3000w inverter, pure sine wave, peak load 6000w
Obviously it’s going to cost a bit but the “deals” on the likes of eBay etc are a fraction of the cost of some I have looked at,
Question is do you get what you pay for, will it blow up just because it costs less or are they safe to use?

Cheap inverters dont usually last, plus as you are dealing with a massive current with the potential to burn the van down or kill someone I dont want an inverter that is hand knitted in china by children.
Stick to good brands!

Guess I knew this would be the sensible answer all along!

How big is your battery bank, running a 3000W device will "eat" your batteries.

3000W is unusual in a motorhome. Do you really need PSW? How about a smaller PSW in addition to a large MSW?
Hope you have a big battery bank and short, thick wires.
How do you intend to recharge the batteries?

I have been using a cheap inverter for about 8 years without a problem. I thought there may be a problem with reliability so bought a spare, but haven't needed it.
Most electronics these days are made in China so it's often how much you pay for a different badge stuck on it.

There's pure sinewave then there's pure sinewave
Evidently cheap inverters arent as clean as made out to be and have fewer, inferior components.

I have a cheap Pure Sinewave 1000 Watt one, what I can tell you is although a lot better than a modified sine inverter it's not a perfect sinewave a bit noisy. You get what you pay for with inverters..

The clue of quality may be in the price and weight. If buying from abroad, be mindful that you may get clobbered for import duty and admin fees. Also think about the support you might not get.
There are better modified sine-wave inverters, just as there are (less-than) pure sine-wave ones.
I think I have a 2800 Sterling MSW Inverter (peak 5600W), with remote control, in my workshop. PM if interested.

Our 1000w cheap psw inverter was only £67 from China (took it nearly 3 months to come lol). It's just for Ann's hair straighteners and small hair dryer. Not used it for the hair dryer apart from testing it when new, but it's worked the straighteners a few times. It's made by Meind. I've seen the sine wave on an oscilloscope and it looks perfect.

What I do if wanting something cheap is look on amazon and read the many user reviews. If there's loads of positive reviews you can't go wrong... Probably :ROFLMAO:

Good idea to read reviews but it's pretty clear to me that Amazon populate them with those form other (similar) products and, for all I know, they could be specially selected also.

Not only Amazon. Screwfix do it as well.

I find it difficult to imagine someone getting sufficiently excited about a screw to write a review about it! :D

If you tell us what you want to use it for you may get a better answer. As others have said 3000W is a very high load and will rapidly knacker your batteries (you will need more than one). It will also need very thick cables from the batteries to the inverter.

So with glasses on it turns out the hair dryer was in the wrong box and rated 1500w not 2700w
Still too much? 3x 95amp batteries and 150 solar being fitted with van when pick up with another 150 later as funds allow

That's better. But you can get 1200W travel hairdryers from Argos for about a tenner! And if all you are using it for is a hairdryer you do not need a PSW one. Just get a cheap modified Sine one.

We have a 2000W Modified Sine Wave inverter that we bought for about £80 on Ebay or Amazon about 4 or 5 years ago. Made in China (as they nearly all are) and sold by a German company. Came with its own 12V leads, triple 25mm starter type for both positive and negative. We only use it for 10 minutes once every 3 days or so for the wife's hair, which she keeps long. Everything else electrical uses 12v adaptors including laptop, ipad, phones, shaver, mifi, TV etc. Heating and cooking is all gas. We have 2 x 95Ah batteries and 250W of solar and have no problem whatsoever with it.

How well yours will last will depend upon usage, time of year, and where you are. Should be OK (more so when you get the extra solar) for spring summer and autumn in the UK and all year round in Southern Spain.

Our hair dryer in the mh is 1200w and runs fine for both of us daily. I don't have long hair but hate going out with the dogs with wet hair especially if it's not too warm.

I only have a 600w (1000w peak) cheapo inverter.
7 years now in the van and does the job we need, wife (the one with the hair) has a standard hair dryer but uses it on the lower heat setting and so less power draw.. (y) She moans it takes longer but cheaper than a big inverter and new batteries.;)
