Lynne has been told her office will be closing down Dec or March and she’ll be made redundant.

The plan is to do a year in Europe, we’re already full-timing so we won’t have to pack lol .We try not to make too many plans as we always break them or something goes wrong, we just tend to get off the ferry and turn left or right but this time we thought we’d try and do a bit more research.

First leg will be France, Spain and Portugal we will be setting off in Jan or April.

We have German A Class 8.5 meters and we tow a small car on a A Frame not sure if we will be taking the car with the rules in Spain . Lynne doesn’t drive and if we’re told to unhook the car we have big problems lol.

We plan to make a list of any good aires , wild camping spots and camp sites in these 3 countries and plan our route around them. We are on a budget so we plan to use more aires and wild camping spots

Welcome any advice on routes places to avoid or good aires , lpg locations and wild camping spots

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice

Wow what a adventure sure you will get plenty of suggestions, after our trip last year one thing I would say is take what tin / pkt food with you to give yourselves a fair start as to me things seemed quite a bit more expensive over the channel. Enjoy.::bigsmile:

Hi Carol
We have just come back from France 2 weeks ago and your right we also found the food very expensive so we intend to stock up with the basics before we leave.

If your going for a year and have a toad it seems daft to leave it behind just because of Spain. Why dont you just avoid Spain? ITs not my favourite country by a long way and just reading about the crime, corrupt police and anti motorhome laws is enough to put me off. Too many other countries to consider that are much nicer and MH friendly.

We have our car on a trailer and that way we avoid any problems even though both of us drive.

We found food expensive in France this year. Also little choice by way of tined meats.

Try http://www.gps-data-team.com/ for POIs for GLP and Aires in France and Spain. They are listed in the POI directory for each country. GLP is listed under Petrol and Aires are under accomodation.

Can anyone advise on food price comparisons for Spain and Portugal compared to UK and France.

Hi Barryd

Yes we have considered avoiding spain , we took the car to France with us and the car was great when we were on campsites but when we stayed on aires it was a pain ie taking up 2 spaces or finding somewhere to park it. Also had to unhook the car a few times when the aire was full so we could turn around

That van looks a good size, will it not take a scooter? Much more fun (until it rains that is)

well looks like a fun year ahead for you. However! travelling through France in January can be a trial, this year we had snow most of the way to spain, followed by torrential rain. Scooter will save a bob or three on fuel and no problem in spain. Food in france was expencive and chioce limitied but only by UK standards and you will not be here so adapt. wine is great, cheese is endless and fresh fruit and veg unbeatable for quality and taste. Enjoy.

We found the food expensive in France this year in May. Too early for a large range of fruit and veg maybe better later on in the season. What about Italy . We found it much cheaper for food than France .

Thats a shame but there is a big difference between a Fireblade and a 100cc Peugeot. Mrs D loves our bike and we have so many happy memories from chasing Marmots up to the Ski slopes in the Pyrenees to flying around Lake Annecy on Bastile day when it was 35 degrees and diving off every few miles and jumping in the lake to cool off then setting off soaking wet to cool down.

You obviously have a full bike licence so its the way to go. Maybe when your scootering around at a sedate pace around the med in shorts and T shirts and getting down all those little lanes and rural pathways she might change her mind.

The roads are less crowded abroad and IMO most of them are safer. Your only going to be pottering probably in less crowded areas so its reasonably safe and loads of fun.

Hi Wildman

Very good advice but we wont be in a hurry and we hope to work around the weather or if we leave in Dec we may just get the ferry to Santander.

But thanx again for the heads up on the weather

You're right we might end up with a scooter easier than a push bike
