Hi all
I have just joined up paid the £12 which is a small price to pay for all the info on here. I have been reading all the posts with great interest and amusment, what a lot of fun you all seem.
My name is Dave, I don't own a motorhome at the moment, hence the frustration. I have decided that I want an rv one of the American ones for more space as i plan to live in it, unfortunatly i have to wait to sell my place in Spain, so until then i will have to live this dream via this site.

Keep your travel stories coming and I hope to meet up with some of you soon.

Happy travels

Dave

You'll have to come to a meet and meet Roadrunner. You'll both be able to cry late into the night telling tails of exes.

It's sad, but it happens a lot. Hit the road in your RV sounds a pretty good cure. The good things about RVs is just how much you get for your money if you're not after a brand new gin palace, much better value than any Euro MH.

But then there is the fuel consumption - do you know any friendly Arabs ?

Hi Dave and welcome:Smile:

Where abouts in Spain do you have a house? We have a place between Jaen and Cordoba. Love our little village and the locals and try go at least 4 times a year. It had got up to 9 but we were seriously affecting our business having too much time off and our son is now at senior school so we have to stop sneaking the odd weekend away:cry:

How is the housing market we have had ours about 5 years, any buyers or is it all silly offers? Last year we went to Isla Canela for a week and spoke to an estate agent, he said the Spanish were buying but the sellers, mainly Brits were taking large losses as they had to get shut. Very sad! Our house cost less than our motorhome as we are rural but to sell it could be a problem as we have a limited market. Hopefully we will not have to as it is our retirement pad for the future but who knows what life throws at us?

We are driving for the first time in August, what an adventure and we are taking our little dog. The locals will be amused seeing us trying to get our large motorhome through the tiny street. Hubby has 'walked' the route but a parked car and we are stuffed so to speak. The builders merchant will hopefully keep it at his place until the streets are clear or we leave. High 40C and a stressed hubby, what fun:ROFLMAO:

I hope your wish becomes a reality very soon

Second take on this.

Yes Yank RVs are great value and huge and therein lies your problem, huge fuel bills and you are limited where you can go.

For one person a Euro van should be more than big enough and you get 3 or 4 times the mileage and you can go just about anywhere. Might actually cost you a bit more depending on age.

I have got a 3 bed apartment in a place called Torre de Benegalbon just outside Rincon de la Victoria nr Malaga right on the coast. I bought it off plan in 2002 and was completed in Oct 2004, used to go over twice a year but now reduced to to once due to work commitments, a lovely spot very Spanish not to many brits( so no home made steak pie and chips or english breakfast.

The property market is very slow, too many new property's empty and not sold, I won't lose out although maybe not make as much as i would like.

I do like a lot of space so it will an rv preferably with lpg the size is not a problem as used to drive artics all over Europe east and west. As to who will let me on there site, I don't think it will be to much of a problem as i would only go for 34 foot max( as they say size doesn't matter).

Fair enough. I just remember saying, time and again, it's me age, "thank goodness this is no bigger".

Once was near Gstaad. It was dead easy - up this road turn right.

Oh NO.

It was silly roadwork season and before I knew it we were in the middle of this town with diversions everywhere. We had to go down a back street, one car's width with overhanging balconies. We got through, I'm not sure how.

I'm sure you'd get an RV up these mountain passed but it would be hard word. Then again, baybe mountain passes might not be your thing.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the funsters, I notice you're also a member of Jim's sister site over at RVOC.

You'll absolutely love owning an RV especially if you get one with a couple of slideouts. The extra room, comfort & storage space you get with an RV easily outweighs the downsides, in my view.

Ok, running costs are a bit higher than a Euro. I get around 10mpg in my 36' diesel pusher however, I had a chat with a guy on a site the other day who's running a Range Rover tugging a caravan who's getting 8mpg, so RV's aren't always the most expensive option. Vehicle tax @ £165.00, MOT @ £40 plus Insurance @ just over £400 ain't too bad. Redvers at Swindon, (not too far from where you live), will look after your pride & joy at a very reasonable cost however, I'm sure there will be other options closer to where you live.

When abroad there'll be many places you'll need to steer clear of, but if you use a toad, it's simply a case of parking the RV on a site or wherever, and using the toad to do your exploring. You then have a cracking base to come home to each day. (Make sure you stick a beer fridge in one of the lockers!).

I reckon you'll love it. Good luck for the future! :thumb:

Hi Paul

After looking on various websites, i think i have decided on 34 foot, at least 1 slide, either diesel or petrol with lpg conversion and of course belly lockers for storage for the beer over flow as you never know when you are going to socialise plus the obligatory (my favourite tipple) Soborano spanish brandy.
