I've just been told if your van isn't occupied and it isn't at your address you will not be covered? True or False.

True, not covered if left unattended for more than 48 hours if not at it's designated storeage address, not just Comfort most companies have similar terms.

Mine was going to be at a garage in Spain for 10 days or so (Fiestas intervened ) just sent them an email giving address details and covered confirmed without problems or charge.

I thought it was 36 Hrs. The bit about not being at your address needs to be quantified. Obviously if your away from home and spend a little time outside of the motorhome, it's still covered.

Used to be they changed it 48 hours a year or two ago.

I think so too but haven’t seen it on the policy and haven’t checked the dealer has cover. Just another thing we all take for granted but don’t actually check - well I haven’t anyhow

I guess that depends on who you are insured with and what you told them when you took out the insurance.

I'm with Comfort and it still says 48 hours with the provision that you can advise them of where and how long. Not had to do it but its likely they will then decide whether to charge/cover you or not.

Refereing to the OP question, and answers given thus far, am I right in thinking that provided the security is sufficient on the van, one could park up in a Comfort Inn, or Premier INN or such like and be covered to stay a max of 2 nights in the hotel (48 hours)?
Cant see why you would do this, unless you didnt hve full facilities in the van maybe.
Probably still cheaper than a CMC site though

I am in the same situation and Comfort assured me that the motorhome was covered whilst I was staying in the villa.

I'm no longer with Comfort - parted company in the summer after 8 years - but when I pressed to clarify the point, because we sometimes stay in other accommodation on our travels, they said that if I could say the vehicle was with us and checked at least every 36 hours, it was OK to sleep elsewhere.

But suggest anyone who needs clarification, should speak to the company and explain exactly what circumstances you require cover for.

If you want to leave the van abroad and return to the UK for a few days, for example, provided they are satisfied with your storage arrangements they will often agree, on payment of circa £30 a week.

Once you hand the keys to a garage, they are responsible for your van, and will be covered under their insurance, as long as they have some!
