Hi all I have a Weber baby Q, my question is will it cook a joint of meat in a roasting tray? I’m thinking of using it like a normal oven on a low gas, has anyone any tips or ideas? Thanks in advance.

That's what we are hoping to do when the weather lets us, and since altering the gas inlet connector to allow us to connect it to the Vans BBQ point, its stayed in its cover:(
I know Weber sell a separate roasting plate thingy but I was hoping that with the lid closed and on a low/medium heat, that the heat would not only warm the baking tray from the underside, but also allow heat to come up the sides and over the top of the joint of meat browning on all sides.
Only time and experimentation will tell I suppose, but that's what I had in mind.
Hopefully someone else that's had theirs longer than we have, and has tried this method, will now come on and share their experience, as there is certainly quite a few us that bought them when the special offer was flagged up on here.
Good luck.

We use our Q like this some times but you need to turn the meat a lot more than normal as the heat difference top vs bottom is quite large. The lid is only Alloy so it cools quite a bit on that side. We tend to use a slightly lower heat and a longer cook time. Have done a few chickens and small joints in ours. Having a temp gauge on the front is handy, think ours is a Q100 ???

Will do it provided it fits but you will have to open lid occasionally or it will get too hot and just burn it

You can make Paul chief occasional lid opener.

He would be good at that I think.(y)

Yes that is what we found. We use a small deep heavy non-stick aluminium roasting tray from M&S but even on the lowest setting the Q gets too hot so I wedge the lid open by about 2".

We have a Q1200 (latest version of the Baby Q) in the motorhome. We also have the larger Q200 at home. We use both for all sorts of cooking including roasts. Keep it low and slow and it comes out well.

Sandra and I can testify to Peter's skill with cooking roasts on the BBQ. The pork joint he roasted in Torre Del Mar was lovely. :xgrin:

If it's not mooing it's OK, if it's snorting it needs more cooking, lamb can be either!
