Going to give it a miss this year. The manufacturers seem to be concentrating on how the bike TFT screen can connect to your phone and what other electronic aids it has.

It really is getting very silly, isn't it. "With it's new TFT screen it really is something".

Then of course it's not a bike without lean angle ABS, traction control, quick shifter, adaptive suspension.

All they are missing is a seat vibrator for the type of rider who demands all this.

PS: TFT screens rely on a back-light for you to read them, get the sun on them and most will be illegible. Far better is the monochrome one which improves in sunlight.

I’m hoping to go on the 24th with a local friend ride up and meet a mate and his son who live near Lichfield.

I’d love to have stopped the night for the second city derby, but alas it’s the MiLs 70th party so have to be home in time for that.

Havent been for several years, might grab a RX7GP replacement and will only probably bother with the adventure market stuff, equipment and travel sections. I met Sam Manicom and talked to him for a while, got him to sign a book as a gift for someone.

That reminds me of taking my new girlfriend to a motorcycle show. The first stand was full of scantily clad MCN girls who were being totally ignored by everyone as Mike Hailwood's TT winning bike from '78 was grabbing all the attention!

As she was quite a bit (lot) younger than me, It took a while to explain to her that Mike Hailwood is the greatest road racer ever & after an 11 year break, he got on a knackered ducati and won the TT on it.

Going on the bike reduces purchasing options if there are some deals.

Seen the costs to park minibuses and coaches relative to cars?

How much is parking for a coach or minibus?
£15 for a minibus and £20.00 for a coach.

Been today. Basically £13.50 for an olde farte riding into the nice free Hall1 parking. Lots were queuing to feed £16 into the parking machines, of which there were many.

There are some great bikes to be seen and some weird things with more than 2 wheels.

I wasn't looking closely but nothing hit me in the face as "a good deal".

By midday, Sun, it was heaving.

will only probably bother with the adventure market stuff, .

What a huge span that covers. Most huge great things made more to carry egos than people.

I think Yamaha have come up with a magnificent sensible adventure bike, the Tracer 700 GT, quite small and light but with enough power for any sensible adventure.

Don’t you mean the Tenere 700?

The Tracer GT is a Grand (haha) Tourer.

Ah, terminology. What is a tourer, what is an adventure bike ?

I think, on the whole, an "adventure bike" is used as a tourer. Touring Europe is an adventure isn't it.

But if you want dirty stuff that new Tenere looks the absolute dogs thingies. Built for the dirty stuff and light enough to keep picking it up. I bet Charlie and Ewan would have given their left b--------k to be picking up the Yam instead of that BMW behemoth.

It’s all a case of horses for courses, to me an Adventure bike needs to be tall, shaft drive, full luggage, large capacity fuel tank. Heated grips are a non negotiable requirement as I ride year round.

I never go off road, unless you count Waitrose car park so weight is not an issue for me.

Europe wide dealership network is also a bonus as is cruise control.

Not sure anything fits the above as well as the GSA.

Had an enjoyable day there today. Not too busy so was able to get access to the bikes we wanted to see.

Bagged some kit at decent discounts so fairly pleased.

Watched the BMW Off-Road Skills demo - quite impressed with the stoppie!

My 1200 gs has a TFT screen and it is literally brilliant and is visible in all conditions.
Had it for a couple of months, 6000 miles including a couple of trips to South of France and Spain.
Yep it’s fully loaded with all the abs, tc, quick shifters etc bits....but they’re in the background, I use riding skills developed over 40 years to keep me ( relatively) safe.
And yes I do ride fast when it’s appropriate.

Just wish I could get my body to wrap around a sportsbike, but it won’t !
But the gs is just as fast in real world riding, not including track days......although I did throw a gs up the road at Mallory some years ago.
