We are going to watch the tour for the first time next month and wondered if any of the funsters have any experiences to pass on please.

just follow the french !

many finishes have space nearby to free camp for the night
usual methodology is to watch the finish , spend the night , maybe watch the start or near to next day , off to the finish and so on

if there is a mountain top finish there will be motorhomes all the way up the last climb , better be there early to get a spot and get your dish up !!! I still carry an analogue satellite box to pick up the french transmission or perhaps eurosport international on astra 1 , freeview [ TNT ] in france is patchy

Find somewhere in the mi9ddle of nowhere. Mountain tops are hectic but a bit of a nightmare to get to and impossible to park.
DONT do Paris. ffi took me once as a surprise. Bl**dy nightmare, full of boozed up corporate ratbags who didn't give a monkeys about cycling!

PS We will be at the start of the tour in Rotterdam and the stage that ends in Spa as well.

we watched the tour de france a few years ago, we watched the day before the start at Strasbourg, and then the next day when it started, the sponsers were amazing and you get free gifts thrown into the crowd.
there is a free aire in strasbourg on a park, next to a youth hostel.
Strsbourg is a beautiful city, a must is little Italy, lovely canal's through the city.
