My nearside wing mirror on my VW T4 MH exploded on my way home last week. One second it was fine, next second it was in pieces.

I've been looking for a replacement on Google and there seems to be a lot of stick-on 'glass' replacements available.

Has anyone tried these, or should I bite the bullet and order one through the VW dealer?

Thanks for the help, guys.

Been in touch with the wingmirrorman, but we don't think that it is a standard T4 wing mirror. Perhaps a larger one to get past the coachbuilt body?

Not sure how to work out whether it is or not.

Here's a picture of the wing mirror. Is it standard T4 do you think?

The size of the glass is approx 26cm x 17cm at it's widest point.

It isn't the standard mirror from the T4 van (which had an asymmetric arrangement with a 'landscape' layout on one side, and a portrait arrangement on the other).

It is the mirror the vehicle originally shipped with, (MMM did a review of the Valentine in 1993, and the pictures clearly show it).

It is a long-arm alternative which must have been shipped with the Chassis Cab only, and this can be confirmed if you Google pictures of an Autosleeper Clubman of the same vintage - same mirrors as yours. Pictures of standard VW pickups also show a similar mirror, so I believe it to be a standard VW part.

In addition, the mirrors in this case are symmetrical, so there is significant doubt as to whether the glass shape is the same as the shorter, van type.

Doesn't immediately solve your problem, but gives some guidance I hope.

Unless you can match the shape it looks like a trip to a VW dealer.
