I have just been onto Sureteam Direct and they nearly fell of their stool when i told them how much my current policy is telling me it not possible.

My current policy is just over £500 plus £60 recovery.

Apparently this is not possible according to them:RollEyes:

Common who are you with getting quotes around this price with more valuable vehicles?

BTW:- any who bought from the US and brought it here they ignore all costs and taxes including shipping and will ONLY pay the USA purchase price if lost and needed replacing.

You have been warned:winky:

John although yours is a Sellers wakachee I think Keith discovered they were or are part of the Rockwood group can you not tell them its a rockwood and why have you mentioned the import side of things ,that in my opinion is nothing to do with insurance you insure for replacement cost here in the uk if the insurers are saying they only pay USA prices tell them thats ok if they charge USA premiums
Geo
Ps it would appear that my Coachmen and Georgie boy are both built by coachmen Industries, I thought they were two different manf:Sad:

I am quite happy with NFU but hearing some of your keen quotes made me start searching.

Will check out the Rockwood thinghy. But Sellers are recognised in the NADA book so they are being small minded.

With the US price they asked me direct I was wrong footed and then said that must apply to all US vehicles then as they are all imported via shipping, converted and taxed:RollEyes:

She sure wanted the deal to but that killed it dead.

If i was with sureteam I would be real uncomfortable.

I am not sure but I think that most imported vehicles are treated in the same manner by insurance companies as they can check who and if it was imported from the Registration Certificate and i think they ask you questions regarding this when and if you make a claim.

If that is indeed the case I would go to great lengths to point out 90% of the products in this country are imported and the purchase or replacement price includes an eliment of this cost, the whole purpose of Insurance is to leave you where you were before and without loss

Hi,
I totally agree with you, but I'm not to sure that the insurance companies see it in quiet the same way ??

I am with you all the way on this but was totally thrown with the RV.

I phoned her back and shes very pushy sales person and I finally tied her down to it they would only pay they purchase price in the US so i said I wouldn't go with then so she said fine (bare in mind this is a high pressure sales person) but was happy to loose the business.

I suppose if you bought it here it would be that price but again they never pay out what you say it worth anyway.

Be interested to know what all companies would pay out if disaster stuck?

I cant get my head around it John and would certainly contest any efort to pay me its US value
I can only asume its because you stated its a private import and also the purchase price
in that case sell it to Irena for a£1 and she will sell it back to you for 25 grand on paper------------------sorted

Hi,

This raises a number of questions as to how insurance companies settle claims on imported vehicles, as the registration documents clearly state if the vehicle was imported by the registration dates. and as hardly any vehicles are made in this country how do the main manufacturers overcome this problem e.g. Fiat from Italy etc.

Are vehicles that haven't been imported directly by their respective manufacturers classed a "grey Imports" and if they are and that insurance companies may not pay the full UK value if one of these vehicles is damaged then it must raise a question over the price you would expect to pay for one of these vehicles in the UK ? and could directly affect the resale values ?

Interesting does anyone work in the insurance industry

??

cheaper insurance

have you tried Adrian Flux.
They specialise in unusual and adapted motorhomes, cars and lots of other things.

I nearly fell off my chair with shock when i got my online quote, i had to ring them to check if i had got the right one it was as cheap as my 1996 car.
They don't quote instantly but its not long before they email you or you can ring them.
Their website is www.adrianflux.co.uk

Good luck

I not really bothered as I am quite happy with Towergate Baker but it's always worth a shop around when it's renewal time.

I didn't go out of my way to tell them i imported it they asked directly and I phone back to check it out that this was all they would pay out on as i was in disbelief with it

What i want to do is warn others though that this may be the way they try to pay out on if the worst happen with sureteam direct.

Large American RVs can be problematic for insurance. NFU can sometimes help once you get to the right part of their Insurance operation

I had no problems at all insuring my RV I did it over the telephone with Safeguard the whole process took no more then 10 minutes and they could'nt have been more helpfull. I reserved the quote for a couple of days while I tried the rest. My own insurance broker was the most expensive with the least cover through Norwich Union, the NFU took forever to quote and when they eventually did it was far too expensive and again very limited cover and they were very inefficient so did'nt fill me with confidence.

Safeguard fully comp on 2004 34ft Damon Daybreak named driver only unlimited time abroad, full recovery, windscreen excess £250.00, total price £500.oo

Don't know if it's worth the paper it's written on and hope I never have ti find out but it's legal and was quick and easy.

HI all,

I'm wondering - no-one seems to have mention comfort as insurers for American RVs , and I was led to believe they are up there with the best.

Is this just a quirk, or is there a reason?
