Been looking at similar on the Taylormade site ...£24 the pair ...didn't bother to check the p&p cos I've some spare bubble insulation that could do the job

AFAIK it's the Sunlight that does damage over time so presumably any dark material would do ...unless of course anyone 'knows different'

Yes for covering in hot sun... actually just ordered some from (somewhere up north!) via telephone as I had a question when I found them on Amazon. They were actually cheaper and wd get to me quicker ordering direct! So I did.. shd be here on Friday!

I'm as much of a sucker for an unesssecary gadget and addon as the next funster, but I really don't get this one at all.

Why would you cover up the tyres on your motorhome when parked up?

Nobody has ever covered the tyres on their cars? (In any country, ever?)

Has one certain particular brand of tyre manufacturer given this advice? Are their tyres made of a different rubber compound perhaps?

Am I missing a trick here?

It’s the UV.
Exposure to lots of it affects the rubber,weakens it. So if you are keeping the tyres on a van for,maybe up to 7 years,they could become dangerous.
It’s because most Moho are low mileage,the tyres often need changing due to age,not wear. Whereas on a car they are often worn low after a couple of years.

Urban myth maybe but an awful lot of Europeans who live in hot climates, save their cardboard boxes to protect their tyres from the sun. Perhaps they do not like the look of black tyres.

Its not urban myth , when you have lived in Australia you become very aware of the damage that UV does to all sorts of things , many on vehicles, headlamps lens, windscreen rubbers , dash tops , tyres etc etc . UV is what destroys plastic sheet , bags .
Previous posts have mentioned the low annual mileage of MoHo
so unlike cars that can averagely fit new tyres every 2 -3 years ,
a caravan or moho might not do the same mileage/wear in 3 times as long .

When I was heading for the French sun regularly, I made my own covers with bits from my garage. A cheap car windscreen reflector covered the rear wheels and some UPVC panel for the front, held in place with bungees.

Guaranteed never to be stolen

8 years later and they still feature in Camping Le Pin Parasol's website

Wander around Monaco and see how many Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc have bits of cardboard covering their tyres.

Where we live the sun is as strong as anywhere in the world. Nobody here covers any tyres.

If you are going to leave parked up for months (worse thing you can do with a Motorhome) in a hot climate say southern Spain in mid summer, yes they would help.
Normally I can't see the point as my tyres will we replaced long before any damage is done, Motorhome does 4 times the mileage of my car.

Better still just stick a bit of cardboard in the wheel arch in front of them - anyway mine get worn out and changed within 2yr for front and 3 for rear ones

same here.. my mx5 is 8 yrs old and has 25k on the clock , vs my 18mth old MH with 10k on the clock.

Yep, car 6 years old 24k last 2 years only done 2k a year. Motorhome 12 months old done 7k and that's on the low side couldn't get away much last year.
